Job Summary: This position is located in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, in the Resource Management and Science Division. The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period for the position is March - November but the season may be extended or reduced due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: June 14, 2026 This position is being filled under the Field Unit Local Hiring Authority (FUL). See below under Additional Information for further eligibility guidance.

Major Duties:

  • Major Duties: Serve as a fisheries team field leader to accomplish fisheries management activities following standardized protocols in a safe and accurate manner. Leads the operation, maintenance, and repair of field equipment, submits maintenance and repair schedules, and provides detailed supply/equipment needs list to supervisor in a timely manner. Leads proper collection, recording and handling of fisheries field data, data entry, and editing. Maintains good oral communication with supervisor, fellow crew members, and the public regarding field activities. Demonstrates a strong commitment to employee safety by encouraging safety and operational leadership in all fisheries operations. Employee is empowered to identify, report, manage, and correct safety hazards immediately.

Qualifications: All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-05/15/2026-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: include research activity or control program work; nursery work that required the growing and maintenance of plants in a controlled environment; work comparable to that with a large dairy farm where production records, animal environment, and sanitary conditions were kept in accordance with modern dairy practices. Other specialized experience includes experience with standardized procedures for sampling stream fish populations, collecting and organizing field data; independently ensures adequate quality control of data collected; records all data collected and providing findings to staff and the public; utilizes a variety of computer programs to compile, reduce store, retrieve and report data and other resource management activities; experience hiking and walking in mountain streams carrying heavy packs. The position directly affects the design, operation, and adequacy of natural resource activities. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least 1 full year of graduate education leading to a Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree with major study or at least 18 semester hours in any combination of scientific or technical courses such as biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture, or mathematics. Must provide transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. To combine education and experience, first take the amount of graduate education semester hours you have and divide by 18 (semester hours in one full year of graduate education). Then take the number of months of full-time experience and divide by 12 months. Add the percentages together. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must include transcripts. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. ICTAP/CTAP: Current surplus and current or former displaced Federal individuals who have special priority selection rights under the Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) or the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) must be well qualified for the position to receive consideration for special priority selection.
