Zayo is seeking a Field Technician III to be primarily responsible for performing duties associated with hands on functions within the telecommunications industry. Our Field Technician III will be moderately proficient in the troubleshooting and maintenance of various types of equipment noted. Our Field Technician III will have a strong technical, mechanical and electrical background and be familiar and proficient around all major manufacturers of transport equipment, high voltage electrical systems, DC power plant as well as knowledge of critical infrastructure, ISP/OSP and all associated test systems to include optical, electrical and power testing equipment associated with the telecommunications Industry. Our Field Technician III will proficiently install, test or turn up a variety of telecommunications equipment including SONET, TDM, DWDM, IP or Ethernet based equipment with limited supervision from the team lead or manager. They also troubleshoot and handle maintenance of various types of equipment noted.
The assigned shift may vary based on needs of the business and typically includes an "On-Call" shift rotation.

Responsibilities:
Lead installation, testing, turn-up, and integration of fiber optic systems, including complex network hardware, transport equipment, and infrastructure
Execute and oversee work related to R&S, COP, and FIRN processes, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with standards
Perform advanced fiber testing and troubleshooting using equipment such as OTDRs, power meters, and spectrum analyzers
Interpret engineering designs, schematics, and network diagrams to ensure accurate installation and configuration
Serve as on-site technical lead, coordinating activities across technicians, vendors, and cross-functional teams
Ensure all work meets established installation standards, quality requirements, and customer expectations
Review and validate work performed by junior technicians, including documentation, testing results, and photo requirements
Identify and resolve issues proactively to prevent delays, rework, or customer impact
Maintain accurate documentation of installations, changes, and test results in applicable systems
Support inventory management, ensuring proper handling and accountability of materials and serialized assets
Enforce safety standards and ensure compliance with all regulatory and company policies
Provide coaching, mentorship, and training to Technician I and II team members
Support continuous improvement initiatives related to process efficiency, quality, and cost reduction
Qualifications:
Field-based role requiring travel to customer and network sites
Ability to work in varied environments (indoor, outdoor, heights, confined spaces)
Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and handle physical job requirements
May require evening, weekend, and on-call support

DC Power experience preferred

Read and interpret documents such as OSHA/Company safety rules, MSDS, MOP's, CLR/DLR, process and procedure documents as well as vendor documentation

Education & Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required; technical degree or certification in telecommunications, electronics, or a related field preferred
4–7+ years of experience in fiber optic installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting within telecommunications or a related industry
Demonstrated experience leading complex installations and working independently in field environments
Strong knowledge of fiber optic systems, transport equipment (e.g., Ciena, Nokia, Infinera or similar), and network infrastructure
Experience with advanced fiber testing tools (e.g., OTDR, power meter) and interpreting test results
Prior experience mentoring or leading junior technicians preferred
Estimated base pay range for this role is $23.41 - $36.00 USD / hour
*Shift Differential Pay Available: Eligible non-exempt, U.S.-based roles receive additional pay for evening and overnight hours, based on role and shift assignment, in accordance with company policy.
