The Materials and Structural Analysis Electron Microscopy sector supports clients in discovering crucial solutions, enhancing efficiency, and making a global impact. The M&SA EM division develops, manufactures, and backs a comprehensive range of advanced microscopy workflows providing insights on micro-, nano-, and picometer scales. Employees globally specialize in electron and ion microscopy, semiconductor, and electronics markets.

The Field Service Engineer in the Materials and Structural Analysis Division at Thermo Fisher Scientific must handle on-site installation, maintenance, and repair of intricate equipment. Engineers assess system quality, train customers, act as the company's contact for project-related issues, and install electron microscopy systems.

This position is ideal for an expert service engineer wanting to be involved with a dynamic team and exposed to a constant variety of customer application areas.

What will you do?

  • Meet customer requirements using suitable resources
  • Perform on-site installation of complex equipment and follow testing procedures to ensure accurate functioning
  • Conduct on-site scheduled planned maintenance visits
  • Provide assistance in resolving and fixing issues for clients and fellow field service staff
  • Nurture and develop positive working relationships with customers, system users and company personnel
  • Optimally complete technical training, as the need arises; identify and successfully complete specialist training based on microscopes in the region
  • Proactively seek out additional learning opportunities both inside and outside of the region
  • Work informally with an applications engineer or attend an application course to gain advanced knowledge
  • Travel often, occasionally at short notice, to client sites to resolve issues or aid other on-site technicians
  • Complete and submit field service reports
  • Work with colleagues to gain technical mentorship for resolving systems solutions
  • Provide analysis on various reports, including identifying and isolating outstanding system issues, documentation, and quality teams

Your Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a University degree or equivalent experience in electronic system fixing
  • Typically requires approximately 3 years of hands on technical experience installing, repairing and calibrating complex analysis tools such as SEM, TEM, FIB or similar systems.
  • Must possess a comprehensive comprehension and extensive background in analyzing and repairing ultra-high vacuum and high voltage systems.
  • Ability to partner optimally with customers
  • Superb interpersonal communication skills; must exhibit a professional working proficiency in English
  • Shown ability to analyze complex systems and subsystems down to component level
  • Literate in MS DOS and Windows software environments
  • Able to read and interpret schematics
  • Familiar with UHV phenomenon and technology
  • Must have the ability to acquire a valid passport and travel regionally and internationally as needed
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
