Position Summary
As a Field Service Engineer Electron Microscopy, you will ensure our sophisticated scientific instruments operate at peak performance. Acting as a trusted technical expert and ambassador for our company, you will deliver exceptional service while building strong, long-term relationships with customers who are driving cutting-edge research and innovation.
In this role, you will install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair a diverse portfolio of high-value analytical instruments — ranging from electron microscopes to chromatography systems. You will combine technical expertise with strong customer focus to solve complex challenges and deliver excellent service.
The work takes place on various customer sites as planned in advance, with one flexible week per month during which travel abroad may be required on short notice.
During the first year in role, travel may also include training taking place abroad for 1-2 weeks at a time.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, and repair advanced analytical instrumentation at customer sites
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electronic, and system-level issues down to component level
- Work with a diverse portfolio of technologies, from electron microscopes to chromatography systems (gradually building your portfolio)
- Provide professional, high-quality customer support and technical guidance
- Manage service documentation and reporting using service management systems, and ensure customer sign-off
- Build strong customer relationships through reliable service and communication
- Serve as a trusted technical expert and ambassador for Thermo Fisher Scientific
- Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, Biomedical) or related scientific field

Equivalent hands-on experience installing, troubleshooting, and repairing advanced analytical instruments - Strong electronics and mechanical aptitude, with ability to read and interpret technical diagrams, schematics, and documentation
- Demonstrated analytical thinking and structured problem-solving skills
- Proficiency with Windows OS, MS Office, and service management software
- Fluency in English (additional languages are an advantage)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with excellent customer service skills and professionalism
- Highly organized, independent and self-driven, with a collaborative mindset
Additional Requirements
- Valid driver’s license
- Willingness to travel up to approximately 50–75% max, in peak periods
- Ability to lift up to 25 kg and to stand for extended periods
- Flexibility to work varied hours and respond to emergency service calls during designated periods
- Ability to obtain required credentials/security clearance for accessing customer facilities
