Job Summary

We are seeking a dynamic and safety-focused Field Training Manager to lead a team of advanced autonomous vehicle operators. In this pivotal role, you will serve as the onsite liaison between training and operations. You will bridge the gap between technical operations and workforce development by owning your team’s performance, the quality of their feedback and the implementation of new training programs to support operational excellence. You will not only manage the daily performance of our highest-level operators, but also support the educational infrastructure that allows them to mentor others and scale our operations safely.

As a direct report to the Senior Manager, Field Operations Training, you will play a key role in defining training standards, managing our learning content, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and psychological safety. 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Manage, coach, and support a team of Advanced Autonomous Vehicle Operators, ensuring they adhere to the highest standards of safety and professionalism.
  • Support onsite operations management personnel to ensure operators are maximizing autonomous capabilities while maintaining strict safety protocols.
  • Review and audit operator reports regarding vehicle behavior, software errors, and disengagements to ensure feedback is clear, effective, and actionable for engineering teams.
  • Foster a diverse and inclusive team environment, resolving conflicts and championing career development for direct reports.
  • Learn to apply Adult Learning Principles to support the design, implementation, and updating of training programs.
  • Help maintain a library of training reference materials, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and job aids that are accessible and up-to-date.
  • Mentor Advanced Operators on how to effectively train and develop peers, establishing a scalable peer-mentorship program.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Training Manager to evolve the scope of the training program as the technology and fleet size grow.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to adjust management styles to suit a diverse team of operators, ranging from technical experts to those new to the technology.
  • Skilled in delivering real-time, constructive feedback and conducting formal performance reviews that drive professional growth.
  • Proficient in de-escalating team issues and fostering a culture of psychological safety where errors are reported without fear of retribution.
  • Confidence in delivering training sessions to large groups and leading "Train the Trainer" workshops for senior operators.
  • The unique ability to translate complex engineering feedback into simple, actionable instructions for operators, and conversely, translate operator feedback into clear technical reports.
  • A strong grasp of road safety laws and defensive driving techniques to effectively audit operator behavior.
  • Demonstrable aptitude as a self-starter and project owner 
  • A strong understanding of safety culture/protocol compliance
  • Strong emotional intelligence, conflict resolution skills, and the ability to give and receive constructive feedback.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates most successful in this role typically hold the following qualifications or comparable knowledge or experience:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • 3 - 5 years of experience in Training Management, Learning & Development, Operations Management or related areas.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record for at least 3 years. 

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience in both operational leadership and training support.
  • Experience in the Autonomous Vehicle, Transportation, or Logistics industries.
  • Experience with software/project management programs (e.g. Jira, Asana, etc.)
  • Previous experience in a role requiring technical writing or technical reporting.

Physical Requirements

  • Available for off-shift schedules, weekends, holidays
  • Comfortable spending extended periods in vehicles during live operations (20–30 hours per week)
  • Standard office working conditions which includes but not limited to:
    • Prolonged sitting
    • Prolonged standing
    • Prolonged computer use
  • Comfortable to undergo regular drug screening in line with DOT regulations

Travel required? -  Moderate: 11%-25%
