Job Summary: 

The Field Operations Lead serves as the primary interface between the company and end users in operational environments. This role is responsible for delivering training, conducting demonstrations, gathering actionable soldier feedback, and ensuring successful fielding of systems (e.g., STEED, NOMAD, ISV accessories). The position requires a highly capable, self-sufficient individual with prior military experience who can operate independently, represent the company professionally, and translate real-world user needs into actionable insights.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

Operational Engagement & Customer Interface

  • Conduct in-person briefings to units, leadership, and stakeholders on system capabilities and use cases
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for end user communications, maintaining strong relationships with units and program offices
  • Represent the company in a professional, mission-focused manner in all field environments

Training & Fielding (NET)

  • Lead New Equipment Training (NET) for units receiving systems
  • Develop and deliver hands-on instruction to ensure operators can effectively and safely employ equipment
  • Tailor training based on unit mission sets and experience levels

Demonstrations & Field Support

  • Plan and execute live demonstrations in operational and training environments
  • Support unit exercises, evaluations, and experimentation events
  • Provide on-site troubleshooting and operational guidance

Soldier Feedback & Product Improvement

  • Collect structured and unstructured soldier feedback during training, demos, and operational use
  • Translate feedback into clear, actionable insights for engineering and leadership teams
  • Support development of AARs, CONOPS, and user-driven improvements

Reporting & Documentation

  • Develop detailed After-Action Reports (AARs) following training events, demonstrations, and operational use
  • Capture key observations, performance insights, and soldier feedback in a clear, structured format
  • Translate field data into actionable recommendations for product improvements and operational employment
  • Create and maintain quad charts and briefing materials for government stakeholders to provide concise program updates
  • Ensure all reporting is professional, accurate, and aligned with government communication standards
  • Support leadership with quick-turn updates and documentation for senior-level engagements

Equipment Management & Transport

  • Coordinate and execute equipment transport to and from training sites, demonstrations, and operational locations
  • Maintain accountability, readiness, and serviceability of all assigned equipment
  • Ensure systems are properly configured and mission-ready for each event

Qualifications:

  • Prior military experience required (combat arms, logistics, or operational roles preferred)
  • Experience training, briefing, or instructing military personnel
  • Strong understanding of small unit operations and field environments
  • Ability to operate independently with minimal oversight in dynamic conditions
  • Comfortable traveling frequently and working in austere environments
  • Strong communication skills with ability to engage both enlisted personnel and senior leadership
  • Experience with tactical vehicles, UGVs, or fielded equipment systems preferred

Travel Requirements

  • 40-50% travel, including CONUS and potential OCONUS support
  • Frequent short notice travel to support operational needs, demos, and training events

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Former NCO or officer who understands how units operate in the field
  • Comfortable briefing a battalion commander one moment and training soldiers the next
  • Hands-on, adaptable, and mission-driven
  • Thrives in fast-paced, non-traditional defense environments
  • Charlotte, NC based or ability to relocate to the Charlotte area

Education/Experience:

  • Prior military experience required (combat arms, logistics, or operational roles preferred)
  • Experience training, briefing, or instructing military personnel
  • Strong understanding of small unit operations and field environments
  • Experience with tactical vehicles, UGVs, or fielded equipment systems preferred

Certificates and Licenses:

  • Valid Driver’s License

Computer Skills:

  • Advanced knowledge of CAD software, preferably Siemens NX and Teamcenter.
  • FEA experience specifically with Ansys a plus..
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc. 

Communication Skills:

  • Strong communication skills required.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers and company personnel.

Attendance Expectations:

  • The position requires regular and predictable attendance.  Scheduled shifts may include evening hours, weekends, and holidays.
  • Requires ability to travel frequently for on-site service engagements and installations.

Physical Demands:

  • Constantly stands, walks, manually manipulates, lifts/carries up to 40 pounds, and pushes/pulls up to 25 pounds.
  • Frequently sits, squats or kneels, bends, lifts/carries up to 50 pounds, and pushes/pulls up to 40 pounds.
  • Occasionally reaches outward, reaches above shoulder, climbs, crawls, lifts/carries over 100 pounds, and pushes/pulls up to 100 pounds.

Verbal and Writing Ability:

  • Strong attention to detail is needed. Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers and other employees.
