Job Summary: Make an impact while you learn. The Semester of Service Program gives students a volunteer, project-based opportunity to support real Federal missions, gaining hands-on experience and career-ready skills. Students must be enrolled at least half-time in an accredited institution with permission to participate. In this project, you'll support a policy compliance based project.

Major Duties:

  • The government-wide "Semester of Service" Student Volunteer Program, as authorized under 5 U.S.C §31114 and 5 CFR Part 308, enables Federal agencies to engage students in unpaid, project-based assignments of limited duration. These assignments are designed to align with each agency's strategic priorities, offering participants practical experience within Federal operations while supporting the advancement of targeted initiatives. EBSA is the agency within the Department of Labor that administers the Employee Retirement Security Act of 1974 (ERISA), which protects the retirement and employee benefits of participants in private-sector plans. During this internship, the student will gain an orientation in ERISA and EBSA's enforcement operations. The student will assist EBSA's Office of Enforcement, specifically the Division of Field Operations and Support. The Division of Field Operations and Support coordinates national voluntary compliance programs, conducts EBSA enforcement projects, and project evaluations, and provides administrative assistance and technical guidance to EBSA's ten regional offices. Projects will include processing applications received under the Abandoned Plan Program to ensure compliance with program requirements and reviewing agency records in response to requests for information. Other duties may include researching and vetting investigative leads and conducting document review in support of large, complex investigations. In order to be eligible for this opportunity you must be able to obtain academic credit from your institution OR a third-party stipend of at least $15.00 per hour or higher if the locality you are selected for has a higher minimum wage than $15.00. Qualifications: Applicants will be considered based on their knowledge, skills or abilities related to project needs. Specifically, applicants should demonstrate: Strong Background with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook). SharePoint experience is a plus Ability to manage multiple assignments, projects and/or initiatives Ability to analyze data and information An interest in law enforcement, pre-law, business administration, criminal justice, and policy Ability to work well in a team environment.
