Summary of purpose/major responsibilities:
The Field Medical Director, Oncology East role is part of the Field Based Medical Leadership Team, who is responsible for delivering on field engagement strategies and tactics aligned to medical plans for their TA(s) and monitor team progress toward impact metrics. They provide strategic leadership and accountability to ensure field excellence and performance through effective coaching and prioritization of MSL activities. MSL managers work cross-functionally with field leaders (e.g., Commercial, Market Access) and office-based personnel.
The Field Medical Director's main objectives are to:
Demonstrate value for the business and customers via coaching, developing, and leading the MSL team aligned to the FOUR core accountability areas: (1) Scientific Engagement (2) Insights Generation (3) Support Data Generation (4) Internal Collaboration (5) Clinical Study Support
Coach, train and manage MSL performance and development to ensure excellence in the execution of the role and achievement of strategic objectives
Co-create/develop TA Medical Plans (with TA Sr. Medical Director and Team) and lead team execution to ensure alignment to medical priorities
Ensure individual and team performance goals are set and met through monitoring metrics, resources and budgets ensuring excellence in execution and achieving KPIs
Ensure continuous talent engagement and retention strategies, utilizing clear career development planning
Ensure that MSLs engage in fair and balanced scientific exchanges with key external stakeholders by maintaining relevant, robust and current clinical / scientific knowledge of healthcare landscape
Ensure all compliance and governance processes are adhered to

Team coaching, development/career planning: Coach, train and manage MSL performance and development to ensure excellence in the execution of the role and achievement of strategic objectives

Perform field visits with individual MSLs to support territory development and promptly address field challenges or issues. Document field visits via CRM coaching reports within 2 business days
Guide individual and team development (clinical, technical and leadership skills) through customized development plans
Select and develop key talent to ensure the continuity of critical roles through succession planning
Attract and retain top talent. Create positive team culture
Successfully on-board new talent to accelerate time to effective field interactions and team engagement.
Ensure MSLs have robust scientific knowledge and communication skills to engage in balanced and impactful scientific exchanges with external stakeholders to enhance the understanding of the therapeutic area and medical value of our products
Confirm all MSLs fulfill global and corporate training requirements towards compliance on applicable internal and external policies and regulations
Medical strategy, tactical execution & performance measurement: Monitor individual and team progress against medical and business priorities. Ensures appropriate prioritization of MSL activities to external interactions
Ensures each MSL develops and executes a regional field medical plan aligned and consistent with the USMA organization annual Strategic Medical and Tactical Plans
Co-create/develop TA Medical Plans (with TA Sr. Medical Director and Team) and lead team execution to ensure alignment to medical priorities
Ensure individual and team performance goals are set and met through monitoring metrics, resources and budgets ensuring excellence in execution and achieving objectives
Utilize CRM dashboards to monitor individual and team progress against Field Medical Standards. Escalate discordance with appropriate stakeholders and individuals
Regular communication of Field Impact and progress toward objectives
Contribute to internal project teams as assigned appropriately prioritizing field activities
Attend internal team meetings and conduct manager 1:1 meetings with direct reports
Lead and communicate scientific and medical insights: Lead internal collaboration around insights generation activities and ensure data, facts and observations are gathered, reviewed and analyzed to be identified as insights and incorporated in strategic decision making
Report and facilitate communication on key scientific medical and clinical insights to provide value and potential impact for internal cross functional stakeholders
Lead insight communication (where necessary escalation) to region and global teams and closes loop back to MSL team on follow up and impact of insights to the business
Ensure MSL compliantly recognize and share competitive intelligence with relevant internal stakeholders
Administrative work:
Document field coaching reports in CRM with 2 business days
Complete all company assigned trainings and certifications
Stay updated on emerging scientific and technological advances and regulatory requirements to inform strategic decision-making
Create, execute and update individual development plan
About You
Education / Experience:
Advanced degree in a relevant scientific or medical field (e.g., PhD, PharmD, MD)
3+ years ofexperience in a field medical role or pharmaceutical industry
Prior experience as people leader (preferred)
Prior experience working with healthcare systems, payers, healthcare providers, and researchers (preferred)

The salary range for this position is:
$206,250.00 - $297,916.66All compensation will be determined commensurate with demonstrated experience. Employees may be eligible to participate in Company employee benefit programs. Additional benefits information can be found through the LINK.
