Position Title: Field Applications Specialist, Spectroscopy

Department: Chemical Analysis Division

Location: Open to Melbourne, Sydney

Job Summary
This role provides pre- and post-sales applications support across spectroscopy portfolios (incl. FTIR, Raman, UV-VIS, and process Mass-Spec). You will lead customer proof of concepts, training and ongoing technical support; collaborate with sales, marketing, channel partners and product development. Deliver scientific expertise through presentations, product demonstrations and method optimisation. Ensure applications perform to specification, enable confident instrument use, and support commercial success across assigned territories.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert technical/application support for spectroscopy products; troubleshoot issues, optimise methods and ensure timely, high-quality resolutions.
  • Conduct on-site and remote product demonstrations; develop and deliver structured training for customers, channel partners and internal teams.
  • Create sales/marketing assets (presentations, application notes, technical briefs); participate in seminars, trade shows, conferences, and workshops to generate qualified leads.
  • Optimise utilisation of demo instruments to support evaluations and regional commercial activities.
  • Collaborate with Regional Commercial Leaders and Marketing on targeted campaigns, customer engagements, and market growth initiatives.
  • Provide feedback to Product Development based on customer interactions and market trends; stay current with advancements in spectroscopy technologies and applications.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of customer interactions, support cases, trainings, and regular activity/market trend reports.
  • Work cross-region with Business Units and global resources to support new product introductions and deliver application solutions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Chemistry or related field; postgraduate qualification is an advantage.
  • 3–5 years’ experience in applications/technical support with analytical instrumentation; experience with FTIR, Raman and/or UV-VIS.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; ability to operate independently with sound business judgment.

Travel
