Summary of Job Duties:
The Fellow Physician has a set of defined objectives defined by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) core competencies. Other expectations are outlined in the UAMS Policies and Procedures which are applicable to physicians.
Qualifications:
M.D. D.O. or MBBS required.
Responsibilities:
- Evaluate and provide care to a broad spectrum of patients with illnesses, in order of presentation of assignment by the Senior Resident or Attending.
- Serve as the attending’s principal resource for day-to-day reliable clinical data.
- Participate in all aspects of patient care, including history taking, physical examination, diagnostic and therapeutic planning, procedures, writing orders, and counseling with patients and their families.
- Discuss in-depth all cases with the Senior Resident and/or Attending prior to initiation of all but the most basic diagnostic studies or therapeutic interventions.
- Learn and perform procedures with complete approval and supervision of Senior Resident or Attending (depending on the complexity of the procedure).
- Attend to in-house call as assigned on the monthly call schedule (prepared by the chief.
- Attend two half-days of continuity clinic every week (one at the VA and the other at UAMS).
- Sit for the yearly Residency In-Service Training Examination (RITE).
- Attend all required conferences.
- Learn basic principles of neurology practice, especially through reading major reference books.
- Maintain medical records in a timely manner.
- Supervise medical students and interns/residents from other departments rotating on the specialty service.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
