The Opportunity
The Director will be responsible for initiating and executing comprehensive strategies around priorities in Washington that will support Genentech's mission to bring innovative treatments to patients. The individual will be responsible for implementing an outreach strategy with Members of the United States Congress that showcases the company as a science-driven and patient focused business whose priority is to shape the policy landscape through credible engagement. The Director will monitor and analyze policies, trends and activities in Washington and will be responsible for communicating the business impact to key external and internal stakeholders. Occasional travel to corporate headquarters in San Francisco and to other events as necessary.
The Federal Government Affairs team is responsible for education and advocacy in Washington with the U.S. Congress, the Administration, and other federal agencies. Prioritization and advancement of legislative and regulatory goals are done in coordination with key leaders and colleagues throughout various business functions.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Advocacy & Relationship Building: Cultivate and maintain deep relationships with Republican Members of Congress, their staff, and the Administration to proactively advance company objectives.
Navigating Ambiguity & Threat Mitigation: Navigate the legislative and political environment to address regulatory, legislative and policy issues that may impact corporate growth and profitability. Integrate Genentech’s outside consultants effectively in the development of policy and political strategies.
Cross-Functional Leadership: Develop cross-departmental relationships to inform advocacy priorities and positions, and to ensure that business decision-makers have a strong understanding of the political and policy landscape in Washington.
Business & Pipeline Integration: Continually learn about the company's clinical programs and shifting pipeline to successfully re-orient advocacy strategies and educate external stakeholders on the business impact of policy.
Team Building and Collaboration: Provide strategic direction and cultivate a unified purpose while working collaboratively as part of a dynamic government affairs team.
Political Action Committee (PAC) Management: Execute tactics around the company’s Political Action Committee focused on political giving strategy and internal growth.
Who you are:
You have a Bachelor's Degree.
You have 7-10 years experience working on or with Capitol Hill.
You have an understanding of the legislative and political process
Demonstrated experience in healthcare and expertise in issues of critical importance to company and its business.

Preferred Qualifications:
Deep ties with House Republican offices and across the broader conference.
Strong relationships with external trades, coalitions, and other companies to drive and coordinate industry-wide strategy.
This role requires a presence at our Washington DC Genentech Office (Onsite presence)

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Washington DC is $160,100/yr to $293,300/yr. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
