Why this role matters  

The Salvation Army Graceville Women and Children's Centre is an umbrella name for a number of services for women with or without children who are escaping Family & Domestic Violence and/or homelessness. They include short term crisis accommodation, medium term transitional housing, mobile outreach service and onsite counselling services.

About the role

As we are a Family Violence Refuge, we are looking for a Sleepover Support Worker that has experience working with women and children with complex needs as a direct result from family and domestic violence and/or homelessness which includes but is not limited to grief, trauma, mental health issues & substance abuse issues, parenting and independent living skills.

This position works an active period from 8pm to 10pm, an inactive period from 10pm to 6am, and an active period again from 6am – 8am.

You will successfully

  • Provides support to clients as well as comprehensive hand-over information to staff during active duty
  • Ensure clients accessing the service are provided with a welcoming and responsive initial contact and urgent and immediate needs are addressed 
  • Maintain a clean and welcoming environment during active duty
  • Available to respond to emergency situations during the inactive period.
  • In consultation with more senior worker/s appropriate preventative action is taken in relation to potential high risk situations 
  • Information is provided to assist in assessing and addressing client issues, needs and circumstances 
  • Effective relationships are established with clients that encourage self-determination and participation and support them to improve their situation 
  • As directed, support is provided to clients to implement case plans in accordance with TSA case management models and standards of practice 
  • Clients are actively encouraged to engage in the implementation of case plans

You will have

  • Certificate IV qualification in social work, welfare, community development or related field OR demonstrated equivalent knowledge and skills attained through previous appointments, service and study/development 
  • Relevant experience in the Family violence social service sector. 
  • A National Criminal History record check is required  
  • Western Australian Working with Children Check is required 
  • Current WA Drivers Licence 
  • Current First Aid Certificate with CPR
