POSITION: Faculty, Architectural StudiesPOSITION SUMMARY
Adapt to new and changing situations and demonstrate a positive attitude. Demonstrate respect for students; understand learning styles and apply understanding to institution-related activities; demonstrate integrity and promote diversity and open communications. Fifteen credit hours a semester constitute a standard load. Course assignments may be late afternoon, evening, Saturday, and at branch campuses or satellite centers. Position is subject to all terms and provisions of the Joliet Junior College faculty contract.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Teach at least a minimum course load each semester during fall and spring semesters to include early morning classes, day classes, evening, and weekend classes.
2. Teach at other campus sites as needed
3. Work closely with other instructors and special programs and services within the college to determine placements, curriculum, and academic support.
4. Participate in course development, assessment, accreditation, and planning activities.
5. Be willing to teach online and/or hybrid courses.
6. Participate in appropriate departmental meetings and recruitment activities; serve on committees.
7. Assist in developing and modifying existing curriculum to keep program up to date with higher education requirements and industry expectation.
8. Develop internships and relationships through industry contacts.
9. Participate in departmental and institutional activities; taking an active role in program related activities, including student organization, program and college recruitment, advisory committee, college night, career night, etc.
10. Meet other contractual obligations as spelled out in the Joliet Junior College faculty contract
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Bachelor’s degree in architecture or related discipline.
2. A current Professional Architect license in Illinois, or proof of registration in the IDP process working toward professional licensing, will be considered relevant for the opening. Licensure required for tenure.
3. A minimum of 3 years of related industry work experience.
4. Expertise in appropriate technologies for instruction, including knowledge of industry software relevant to the industry, such as AutoCAD, Revit, Rhino, Enscape, SketchUp, the Adobe Suite, etc.
5. Demonstrated commitment to teaching and learning.
6. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence.
7. Demonstrated commitment to the college’s core values of respect and inclusion, sustainability, integrity, collaboration, humor and well-being, innovation, and quality.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Master’s Degree in Architecture or related discipline.
2.Professional credential or substantial, sustainable architecture experience.
3. Possess a network of industry companies and professionals to integrate and expand opportunities for program students.
4. Experience teaching at the collegiate level
5. Experience with traditional and non-traditional personnel from diverse backgrounds.
6. Proficiency in teaching online and/or using course management programs.
7. Experience in course development and assessment, planning, quality and accreditation processes, and committee service.
8. English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.
9. Demonstrated multicultural competence.
