Job Summary: This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible.

Major Duties:

  • The Program Manager will provide a broad range of professional and clinical pharmacy services in a complex, two division medical center, 27 clinics that has an active research program and an active affiliation with Vanderbilt University, Meharry College of Medicine and numerous pharmacy schools. The incumbent will be responsible for the pharmacy fee/non-VA community care prescription program and the TVHS interface with the Consolidated Mail Out Pharmacy (CMOP). VA Careers - Pharmacy: https://youtube.com/embed/Fn_ickNBEws Duties include but not limited to: Provides patient care that is appropriate to the cognitive, emotional, and chronological maturation needs of the adult and/or geriatric patient. Conduct drug therapy monitoring in all areas of pharmacy practice as an ongoing activity that includes therapeutic appropriateness of the patient's drug regimen, dose, frequency, and route/method of administration. Monitor controlled substance utilization when processing new/renewal orders and intervene where abuse potential is demonstrated. Responsible for detecting, monitoring and reporting adverse drug events and medication errors. Participates in conducting MUE studies and departmental quality assurance activities. Evaluates medication orders and medication profiles for appropriateness of therapy; dosage range, synergistic, antagonistic, and cumulative effects. Reviews questionable medication orders with the prescribing physicians when necessary. Provides consultation and education to physician, nurses and other health care professionals on drug information. Responsible for the daily operation status of all aspects of the pharmacy Non VA, Choice programs, and CMOP interface issues. Ensures the appropriate utilization, maintenance and care of Pharmacy Service resources. Engage with Pharmacy Service procurement employees to ensure adequate stock and avoidance of out of stock situations. Coordinates drug conversions and initiatives associated with the VHA Operational Efficiencies program in order to maximize cost avoidance for the healthcare system. Education: (1) Graduate of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited College or School of Pharmacy with a baccalaureate degree in pharmacy (BS Pharmacy) and/or a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree. (NOTE: Prior to 2005 ACPE accredited both baccalaureate and Doctor of Pharmacy terminal degree program. Today the sole degree is Doctor of Pharmacy.) (2) Graduates of foreign pharmacy degree programs meet the educational requirement if the graduate is able to provide proof of achieving the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination Commission (FPGEC) Certification, which includes passing the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Examination (FPGEE) and the Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet-Based Tect (TOEFL iBT). Licensure: Full, current and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia. The pharmacist must maintain current registration if this is a requirement for maintaining full, current, and unrestricted licensure. English Language Proficiency: Pharmacists must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and 7407(d). Grade Determinations: GS-13 The following criteria must be met when determining the grade of candidates. Experience: In addition to the basic requirements, candidates must have 1 year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-12) and demonstrate the following KSAs: 1. Ability to communicate orally and in writing to persuade and influence clinical and management decisions. 2. Expert understanding of regulatory and quality standards for their program area. 3. Ability to solve problems, coordinate and organize responsibilities to maximize outcomes. 4. Expert knowledge of a specialized area of clinical pharmacy practice or specialty area of pharmacy. 5. Advanced skill in monitoring and assessing the outcome of drug therapies, including physical assessment and interpretation of laboratory and other diagnostic parameters. Physical Requirements: Applicants must be able to perform the following duties: lifting (up to 50 lbs); carrying (up to 50 pounds). Applicants must have use of all fingers.
