A Day in the Life:

The Facility Assistant II plays a key role in coordinating and supporting grain and special crops processing operations at the market centre. This position is responsible for planning and coordinating processing activities, operating equipment, identifying blending opportunities, managing quality control activities, and supporting shipment scheduling. By monitoring processing performance, inventory integrity, and product quality, the Facility Assistant II helps optimize operational efficiency, maintain regulatory compliance, and ensure customer and end‑user requirements are met.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Plan and coordinate binning, cleaning, drying, blending, and storage activities for processed grain and/or special crops to meet shipping schedules and quality specifications.
  • Operate grain and special crops processing equipment, including cleaners and dryers, ensuring contracted standards are met and optimal returns are achieved.
  • Monitor and analyze binning practices, investigate bin mixes, and conduct periodic quality checks of cleaned product.
  • Assess productivity metrics, including downtime and throughput volumes, and provide recommendations to improve grain processing performance.
  • Coordinate shipment scheduling for railcars, trucks, and transloading activities in collaboration with the manager and transportation teams.
  • Support inventory management activities, including tracking stock levels, overseeing inventory checks, identifying damages or shortages, and assisting with reporting; escalate complex issues to the manager as required.
  • Conduct grading and quality assessments—including dockage, moisture, and protein—of inbound and outbound product under the direction of the Grader or Assistant Manager.
  • Identify blending opportunities to ensure product meets required grade and quality specifications.
  • Perform routine maintenance and minor equipment repairs, and assist with servicing grain and special crops processing equipment.
  • Promote and maintain compliance with EH&S regulations, ISO standards, and procedures, contributing to safe work practices and continuous improvement.
  • Perform other duties as required to support efficient, safe, and compliant facility operations.

Skills/Experience Requirements:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Minimum three (3) years of progressively responsible agri‑business (grain) experience.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Strong understanding of grain processing operations and quality control practices.
  • Ability to analyze operational data and make recommendations to improve performance.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with operations, transportation, and management teams.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of environmental, health, and safety regulations and ISO standards.
  • Strong organizational and problem‑solving skills.
  • Physical ability to perform operational duties within a grain or special crops facility environment.
