Facilities Specialist - Housing and Residence Life

The Housing and Residence Life Facilities Specialist manages the Move Crew student staff and is responsible for the day to day facilities related assessment, emergencies, preventative drills, inspections, and follow up.

Salary & Benefits: 

$42,000-$48,000, commensurate with experience

Primary Duties: 

  • Support institution/division/department mission, vision, and values.  

  • Assess and maintain inventory and provide repair and replacement recommendations for items such as common area furniture/equipment, room/apartment furniture, staff furniture and front desk supplies.  

  • Coordinate the moving of furniture and inventory in an effective manner for on-campus housing needs as well as selection, delivery, and installation of replacement and new furniture 

  • Coordinate building walk-throughs and room/apartment inspections. Personally perform regular building inspections and maintain accurate records and reports, while following up with Residence Life staff as needed.  

  • Report policy or procedure violations and response to day-to-day facility issues are made by this staff person. Appeals to these decisions or recommended changes in policies are referred to the Associate Director of Housing Facilities and Leadership Team. 

  • Assist with damage and fee spreadsheet, updating and refining the list on a yearly basis.

  • Coordinate and implement  Health and Safety checks during the Fall and Winter semesters. 

  • Coordinate and implement fire drills on the Valley and City campuses. 

  • Assist with sustainability initiatives within housing for recycling and energy conservation. 

  • Respond to facilities events such as floods, fire damage, mold, pest concerns, etc., connecting with residents, staff and contractors.

  • Work with direct supervisor on assessing and updating Winter Hall fitness center equipment. Update posted signage and schedule routine maintenance on equipment. 

  • Assist with the opening and closing procedures related to facility use, to include training on the completion of Housing Condition Summaries and auditing of building/unit damages.  

  • Assist with IT inventory, tracking and removal. 

  • Assist with Camps and Conference operations as able, utilizing Move Crew for furniture moves/adjustments, providing bins, hanging shower curtains, etc. 

  • Hire, train and supervise student Move Crew Team Members. 

  • Instruct employees in proper receiving and delivery procedures, and safety measures of the Move Crew. 

  • Perform other duties as required/assigned by leadership.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Bachelor’s degree.

  • Supervisory experience.

  • Minimum of one year experience of related work experience and/or relevant training.

  • Demonstrated experience to successfully maintain positive intercultural and interpersonal relationships.

  • Demonstrated experience to successfully work under pressure and meet deadlines.

  • Demonstrated experience in creative problem solving.

  • Demonstrated experience to successfully provide quality customer service.

  • Demonstrated experience to successfully maintain satisfactory work performance.

  • Demonstrated experience in organization and attention to detail.

  • Demonstrated experience with a variety of computer software applications (examples: SQBX, THD, Microsoft and Google programs).

  • Demonstrated experience to successfully work independently, organize own work and coordinate work activities of others.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • 3+ years related work experience.

  • Experience working within a college or university housing setting.

  • Experience with TMA Systems, Workday, and The Housing Director software systems or equivalent.

  • Experience in facilities emergency response and resolution including customer service and vendor coordination.

  • Experience with vendor relationship management.

Working Conditions

Expect to work in a hybrid environment where half of the work is spent in a normal office environment and the other half is on-campus activity, going in and out of various buildings.  Willingness to work flexible schedule with some evening and weekend hours when necessary. Less than two weeks of travel per year can be expected.
