Within the Dean’s Office, the Research and Facilities unit serves as the central hub for all matters related to research activities and facilities projects across the college.  The team manages all CNS space and oversees the planning, approval, and executions of renovations and building projects, including faculty recruitment space needs, teaching and research labs, and shared facilities. 

This position is a one-year fellowship for a recent bachelor’s or master’s degree recipient.  Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States for any employer without the need for sponsorship. 

Purpose

This fellowship focuses on supporting capital projects, operations, and long-range planning for facilities and campuses within the College of Natural Sciences. 

Responsibilities

  • Support the execution of capital projects in science facilities by documenting space conditions, gathering physical measurements, and completing small‑scale project scopes (such as flooring, painting, and furnishings) in coordination with clients, vendors, and contractors.
  • Assist senior CNS facilities staff with tasks within larger renovation and construction projects, ensuring timely progress and accurate documentation.
  • Provide operational support for daily facility needs, including helping occupants resolve facility issues, coordinating building repairs with campus operations, and overseeing the relocation of furniture and equipment.
  • Support maintenance management of college‑owned scientific equipment (i.e. autoclaves, glass washers, and laboratory environmental systems), by coordinating service needs and tracking operational status.
  • Contribute to strategic planning efforts by analyzing facility data, documenting existing conditions, and assisting in the development of planning scenarios, cost estimates, and project schedules for science facilities and campus initiatives.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree awarded in 2024 or 2025 in architecture, community or regional planning, engineering, construction management, or related field. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration and organizational skills, with an ability to manage multiple activities in a varied and complex environment. 
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Team-oriented and able to work independently or as part of a team, as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a facilities-related role on a university campus.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with MS 365, Adobe Creative Suite (Acrobat, Photoshop), Geographic Information Systems (ArcGIS Pro), and/or computer aided design software (AutoCAD, Solidworks, ProE)

Driving Required

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant must provide a three-year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident.

Salary Range

$63,000

Working Conditions

The primary work location is on the University of Texas at Austin campus.  Occasional travel will be required to field stations, McDonald Observatory (Fort Davis, TX), and the Marine Science Institute (Aransas Pass, TX).

Environmental Demands:
