JOB DESCRIPTION:

Department Objective

  • To provide an Engineering service to the plant, in order to maximise the availability of Plant and Manufacturing Equipment. 

  • To ensure continual compliance with the policies relating to Personnel, Quality, Engineering, Safety and Finance. 

  • To control all relevant engineering budgets. 

  • To develop the Engineering team with the emphasis on continual operational improvements and employee development

Primary Role Objective(s)

  • Support and perform the day-to-day preventative and demand maintenance activity to maintain manufacturing and plant equipment.

  • Maintain records and documentation on relevant Engineering Procedures.

  • Perform execution of equipment validation.

  • Liaise with Internal/External Engineering Personnel and contract maintenance providers. Provide permitting and approval for execution of tasks onsite.

  • Co-ordinate the implementation of equipment projects.

Reporting Line

This position reports to the relevant department/area Team Leader or Manager.

Major Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ensure they comply with all Quality system requirements relative to the role.

  • Comply with all training requirements as assigned.

  • Support Manager to develop department goals, schedules and timetables for activities.

  • Execute validation of new upgraded processes.

  • Identify and execute the implementation of equipment/process upgrade/s in an environment of continuous improvement.

  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of all external contractors.

  • Aware of relevant project and departmental budgets support to ensure within target and implement CIP/BEx projects as required.

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant standards for the buildings and associated facilities, utilities and equipment.

  • Develops and compiles monthly (or otherwise) departmental metrics and management reports.

  • Understands engineering principles, theories, concepts, practices, and techniques.

  • Cultivates internal and external network of resources to complete tasks.

  • Interacts cross functionally with internal and external customers.

  • Proactively investigates and benchmark new “state of the art” technologies and processes, develop existing processes and supports the implementation of solutions relevant to the business’s needs.

  • Supports the management of the departmental budgets to meet target and assist implement CIP/BEx projects as required.

  • Supports in the compilation of technical rationales for design plans, validation, and quality records.

  • Utilization of control systems such as CMSNext, POEE, DHM, BMS, CTMS.

EHS Requirement

  • Ensure Safety Standards are met, and safe-working practices adhered to. 

  • Foster and lead continuous improvement to the culture of safety.

  • Recommend/implement improvements to safety standards. 

  • Liaise directly with other departments in accident/incident investigations and address any issues arising from these investigations.

  • Ensure EHS Standards are met and all EHS regulations, policies, procedures and safe working practices are adhered to.

  • Foster safety awareness in the plant and promote a culture of continuous improvement.

Interpersonal Skills

  • An ability to work with all levels of Management.

  • Balanced communicator (frequency, tone, appropriate level of detail).

  • Effectively negotiates with stakeholder conflicts and finds workable solutions.

  • Design & delivery effective presentations up to next level management and cross functional teams.

Problem Solving

  • Efficient use of appropriate problem-solving tools/methodologies to solve day to day line / downtime / equipment impacted issues.

Management and/or Leadership Responsibilities

  • This position does not have Supervisory responsibility.

  • It involves contacts with all levels of management within the company.

  • It involves mentorship of Entry/Base Level Engineers.

  • External contacts with outside contractors/service engineers, commissioning engineers, safety inspectors, consultants etc.

Accountability

  • Considerable and continual care and attention is required to avoid damage to equipment or processes due to the significance of impact to the business.

  • Continual attention required to ensure plant reaches its annual production plan.

  • Failure on the incumbents part not to exercise due care could cause repeated small losses or occasional damage.

  • Work with integrity and take personal accountability and recognize we are one team.

Scope of Authority

  • Has set goals to achieve, which are reviewed periodically.

  • Receives general instructions from Team Leader/Manager as to the manner to which duties should be performed.

Education

  • A trade cert or third level qualification in a relevant discipline.

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years relevant experience in an engineering or technical /scientific related role in a healthcare or food processing industry.

  • The ability to follow project timelines and achieve targets.

  • Must be self-starter with ability to organize and work within a team. This experience is necessary to ensure the skills, management expertise and problem solving techniques have been acquired.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Excellent documentation and writing skills.

  • Good report writing skills.
