Job Description

The Role:

The Conveyor Maintenance Engineer serves as the primary point of contact for all conveyor-related systems Facilities within the plant. This includes overseeing maintenance/housekeeping activities, managing breakdown responses, coordinating spare parts inventory, and delivering technical training.

What You’ll Do (Key Responsibilities):
You will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive maintenance schedules and spare parts strategies to ensure the reliability and longevity of conveyor systems. This role requires close collaboration with internal teams and external business partners to maintain high operational dependability across the entire facility.
The Conveyor Maintenance Engineer will take ownership of identifying, planning, and executing all necessary actions to properly maintain conveyor systems throughout the plant, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance.

1. Maintenance Oversight

  • Lead daily maintenance activities for all conveyor systems, including overhead, floor-mounted, and power & free systems.
  • Develop, implement, and manage preventive and corrective maintenance programs to ensure optimal performance and reduce downtime.
  • Assign and coordinate work tasks for maintenance personnel.
  • Deliver hands-on training on safety procedures, troubleshooting techniques, and equipment operation.

2. Troubleshooting, Repairs & Emergency Response

  • Perform and lead diagnostics and complex repairs involving mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
  • Collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams to conduct root cause analyses and implement long-term corrective actions.
  • Direct emergency response during conveyor breakdowns or production interruptions.
  • Create and execute rapid recovery plans to safely and efficiently restore operations.

3. Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce all safety standards and ensure compliance with OSHA, ANSI, and plant-specific regulations.
  • Conduct routine safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments, implementing corrective actions where necessary.

4. Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, system performance, and downtime events.
  • Prepare reports and data to support operational reviews, performance tracking, and continuous improvement initiatives.

5. Spare Parts & Inventory Management

  • Monitor and control inventory levels for critical spare parts and maintenance tools.
  • Coordinate procurement and ensure timely availability of necessary components to minimize disruptions.

6. Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with production, engineering, and controls teams to align maintenance strategies with operational goals.
  • Support integration of new automation technologies, conveyor upgrades, and system improvements.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent technical experience.
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience working in a UAW manufacturing facility with conveyor systems.
  • Strong mechanical, electrical, and controls troubleshooting abilities.
  • Proven experience leading maintenance teams and managing complex conveyor systems.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, reliability, and continuous improvement.
