Fabricator - Interior Doors

Position Purpose:

The Interior Door Fabricator will execute door fabrication tasks that are in alignment with the company's objectives. The key purpose will be to assemble interior doors and ensure that all tasks are performed in compliance with safety regulations. This position is pivotal in ensuring the seamless operation of the fabrication shop and distribution warehouse.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, lay out, position, and secure parts and assemblies according to specifications, using straightforward and calibrated machinery.

  • Operate and maintain gutter forming machinery, metal fabricating machines, and metal brakes to efficiently produce high-quality gutter products, metal panels, and components for both commercial and residential markets.

  • Prioritize workplace safety and quality standards in all fabrication activities, actively contributing to a culture of safety, integrity, and excellence aligned with company values.

  • Tack-weld or weld components and assemblies, using electric, gas, or other welding equipment.

  • Examining workpieces for defects and measuring workpieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications.

  • Set up and operate fabricating machines, such as brakes, rolls, shears, flame cutters, grinders, and drill presses.

  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.

  • Collaborate with warehouse and distribution teams to streamline production processes, ensuring timely packaging and delivery of finished products to maximize customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.

  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives in the fabrication process to reduce waste, increase efficiency, and support strategic business objectives in expanding market share in metal fabrication.


Direct Manager Direct Reports:

This position reports directly to the Supervisor or Production Manager and may involve overseeing apprentices or less experienced team members.


Travel Requirements:

Minimal travel requirements, typically local travel to job sites may be required.


Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift 50–90 lbs. regularly, stand for extended periods, and perform physically demanding tasks. Requires manual dexterity, steady hand-arm coordination, and a strong focus on safety in a metal fabrication and distribution environment.

  • The position requires frequent standing for extended periods, as well as the ability to perform tasks involving bending, stooping, and reaching. The use of machinery specific to the metal fabrication process demands manual dexterity, precision, and attention to detail.

  • May occasionally be required to operate forklifts or other warehouse equipment.

Working Conditions:

Work primarily in a fast-paced metal fabrication and distribution facility, operating gutter forming machines, metal brakes, and related equipment. Working in the machine shop environment which could include noise, dust, and variable temperatures. Safeguarding measures are in place to protect employees from potential hazards. Success depends on teamwork, safety, precision, and meeting tight deadlines.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a metal fabricator, technical knowledge of metal fabrication processes, understanding of engineering blueprints and fluency in English.

  • Physical capability to consistently lift weights ranging from 50 to 90 pounds throughout the workday.

  • Experience in forklift operation is highly desirable.

  • Strong reliability and commitment to safety, coupled with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.

  • Successful completion of a criminal and driving background check, alongside passing a pre-employment drug screening.


Preferred Qualifications:

Proficiency in using computer-aided design (CAD) software for the design and modification of metal fabrication projects.
Formal certifications or training in metal fabrication techniques or related fields, such as welding or CNC machinery operation.
Demonstrated knowledge of occupational safety standards and regulations pertaining to metal fabrication environments, ensuring a culture of safety-first approaches.
Expertise in managing end-to-end projects, including scheduling, resource allocation, and quality assurance, ideally within a metal fabrication setting.
Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues quickly and efficiently, minimizing downtime and optimizing productivity.
Experience with advanced fabrication processes with materials such as stainless steel, aluminum, etc.
Supervisory experience, with the capacity to train and mentor junior team members.
Strong communication and interpersonal abilities, facilitating effective interaction with team members, and customers.
A proactive approach toward implementing innovative solutions and improvements in fabrication processes, ensuring competitive advantage and market relevance.
Proven experience operating seamless gutter forming machinery.


Minimum Education:

High School diploma or equivalent is required.


Preferred Education:

Technical school training or apprenticeship in metal fabrication is preferred.


Minimum Years Of Work Experience:

Minimum 3-5 years of experience in metal fabrication.


Certifications:

None required

  • Certifications like Certified Welder or Fabricator from a recognized institute are preferable.

  • Forklift Operator Certification is preferred to enhance operational efficiency and safety compliance.

  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is advantageous for effective communication and customer service excellence.

  • Operate gutter forming and metal fabrication equipment with precision and quality focus.

  • Manage inventory proactively to support current production and future demand.

The base salary for this position typically falls within the range of $21.01 to $26.73 per hour. Starting wage may vary based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, the position being offered, location, education, training, and/or experience. SRS Distribution offers additional competitive and non-financial benefits. Hourly associates may be eligible for overtime based on business needs. Depending on the role, associates may also be eligible for performance-based bonus programs, commissions, car allowance or automobile and fuel program, and reimbursement for travel expenses in accordance with company travel policy.
