Job Purpose:
The Maintenance Fabrication Technician specializes in the fabrication, repair, and modification of stainless-steel components using sanitary welding techniques to support plant operations and maintenance activities. This role ensures equipment reliability and compliance with hygienic standards by creating custom stainless-steel parts, modifying existing components, and assisting with installation projects while adhering to safety and quality requirements
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
· Read and interpret engineering drawings, maintenance work orders, and schematics.
· Fabricate custom stainless-steel parts and assemblies for machinery and plant infrastructure.
· Perform sanitary TIG welding on stainless steel components to meet hygienic standards (e.g., smooth, crevice-free welds).
· Operate welding equipment (TIG/MIG), cutting torches, grinders, and other stainless steel fabrication tools.
· Polish and finish stainless steel surfaces to prevent contamination and ensure cleanability.
· Assist in equipment installation, modification, and structural repairs using sanitary welding practices.
· Maintain fabrication tools and equipment in safe working conditions.
· Collaborate with maintenance technicians and engineers to develop solutions for equipment issues.
· Follow all safety protocols, including PPE usage and OSHA compliance.
· Document fabrication work and maintain records for traceability.
Expected Experience & Required Skills
· High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in welding/fabrication preferred.
· 2+ years of experience in fabrication with sanitary welding experience preferred.
· Proficiency in TIG welding for stainless steel, including sanitary weld standards (AWS D18.1 or equivalent).
· Strong attention to detail and commitment to hygienic standards.
· Physical ability to lift heavy materials and work in various plant environments.
· Proven computer skills with intermediate level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
· Can interpret shop manuals, blueprints and shop prints.
· Experience with a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). SAP preferred.
· Basic familiarity with Microsoft Access or similar database software is helpful.
· Experience in the Food Processing Industry, including exposure to OSHA/USDA regulations.
· Knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems.
· High School Diploma/GED or equivalent experience is preferred but not required.
· Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
· Stainless steel finishing and polishing
· Knowledge of sanitary welding standards (AWS D18.1)
· Equipment troubleshooting and repair
· Safety compliance and hazard awareness
Work Environment:
Work is indoors; Primary production floor is wet, Secondary locations are occasionally wet, seasonal climate). You must wear the following PPE (Personal Protective Equipment): (bump cap/hard hat, safety glasses, slip resistant safety shoes, ear plugs).
