The primary purpose of this position is to exercise technical and administrative supervision over subordinate workers in accomplishing trades and labor work for the Survival Equipment Branch. Manages the on- and off equipment fabric work, parachute repair/packing, survival equipment manufacturing, and sewing machine operations, for the T-1, T-6, T-37, T-38, T-43 aircraft

Major Duties:

  • - PLANNING: Supervises work directly and through subordinate leaders to accomplish the work of Survival Equipment Branch. - Attends and participates in various meetings in order to provide inputs and implement maintenance plans. - Utilizes safety practices, procedures, and complies with applicable maintenance operating instructions and regulations pertaining to tool control and foreign object (FOD) procedures. - Accepts special project as required, either tasked or assigned. Reviews and evaluates reports, technical order changes and other written material. - Establishes and maintains good working relationships.

Qualifications: In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WS-3100 Fabric and Leather Work Group. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is ability to do the work of a FABRIC WORKER SUPERVISOR without more than normal supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of, and ability to apply, personnel management policies, principles and procedures of management in order to supervise subordinates, including sexual harassment and Equal Employment Opportunity/ Equal Employment Treatment guidelines , Knowledge of safety requirements and environmental programs as outlined in applicable guidelines. Able to enter data into, and extract data from, Core Automated Maintenance System (CAMS) using keyboard (qualified typist not required). Knowledge of tool and equipment programs and material accounting and security procedures. Ability to coordinate with lateral organizations. 2. Knowledge of a wide range of principles, processes, and techniques of Fabrication, Parachute inspections and repack procedures, and flotation device maintenance, supervision and personnel management policies, practices, and procedures; basic knowledge and understanding of work performed by Aircraft Survival and Flight Equipment Repairers. Knowledge of the use and maintenance of hand and power tools, equipment, and precision measuring and /or test equipment common to trades supervised. 3. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures. 4. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, sketches, and technical specifications. 5. Skill in the use of automation software and related equipment. 6. Ability to communicate, both orally and legibly in writing. 7. Ability to represent the organization in a business-like matter. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Position requires extended standing. Requires the ability to lift items weighing up to 50 pounds. Cannot be Red/Green color blind. Use of fingers and both hands. WORKING CONDITIONS: The majority of the work will be performed in an air-conditioned shop/office, however some tasks will require travel to the flight line in hot, cold, and inclement weather. Some danger involved in handling munitions and highpressure oxygen cylinders, possible flash fires; exposure to ionizing radiation if broken compasses are mishandled. Ensure two-man concept when testing parachute automatic opening devices to prevent explosion. Ensure vent, eye protection and rubber gloves are used when repairing rubber gear, due to fumes, eye, skin, and irritations. Use caution when using knives or scissors when cutting materials. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
