Title:
F-16 Avionics Sustainment Engineer
Belong, Connect, Grow, with KBR!
Program Summary
KBR is seeking to add an F-16 Avionics Sustainment Engineer who will provide comprehensive systems engineering, reliability analysis, and technical assessments in support of F-16 aircraft avionics sustainment. This role supports mission-critical engineering disposition, assessments, and testing to ensure Operational Safety, Suitability, and Effectiveness (OSS&E) for F-16 avionics systems across the fleet.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The engineer will evaluate and sustain avionics subsystems including RADAR, radomes, antenna systems, communications, navigation, software processing, electronic warfare, cockpit displays, electrical harnesses, power distribution, support equipment, and associated infrastructure. The selected candidate will directly contribute to Reliability, Maintainability, Quality, Supportability, and Interoperability (RMQSI) analyses and provide recommended mitigation strategies to maintain long-term system effectiveness.
RMQSI, Systems Engineering & Sustainment
- Perform engineering assessments across F-16 avionics systems to identify RMQSI impacts and risks.
- Conduct obsolescence and diminishing manufacturing source (DMSMS) analysis for components and subsystems.
- Analyze non-destructive inspection (NDI) findings, technology impacts, and sustainment issues affecting warfighter mission execution.
- Provide recommended corrective actions, improvements, and long-term sustainment strategies.
OSS&E Engineering, Testing & Analysis Perform component and sub-system analysis on high-failure or critical avionics equipment.
- Conduct and support field service evaluations when required.
- Execute test efforts including:
- Failure mode and root-cause testing
- Reliability life testing
- Acceptance and qualification testing
- Standards compliance testing
- First article testing
- Flight testing and ground test support
- Environmental, corrosion, and stand-alone subsystem testing
- Operational-type testing
- Utilize Government-furnished ground and flight test facilities as required.
Engineering Dispositions & Workflow
- Support approximately 8–12 engineering disposition requests (EDRs) per month.
- Contribute to an estimated 360 ± 40 total sustainment engineering tasks over 36 months.
Technical Reporting & Deliverables
- Develop and present engineering analyses, test results, and technical briefings to Government engineering staff and management.
- Prepare required deliverables, including:
- Engineering Analysis Reports
- Analysis Reports
- Test Plans and Procedures
- OSS&E Test Reports
- OSS&E Technical Briefings
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related technical field.
- Experience with fighter aircraft avionics, ideally F-16 or other 4th/5th-generation platforms.
- Demonstrated expertise with avionics systems such as RADAR, EW, navigation, communication, antennas, displays, power distribution, and software-driven components.
- Experience conducting RMQSI or OSS&E analyses.
- Background in testing (qualification, reliability, environmental, or flight test).
- Ability to analyze component failures, perform root-cause investigations, and recommend corrective actions.
- Ability to prepare technical reports and deliver engineering briefings.
- Active security clearance (or ability to obtain one).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting sustainment engineering for DoD aircraft.
- Familiarity with DMSMS and obsolescence management.
- Knowledge of USAF technical data, TCTOs, MIL-STDs, and avionics test procedures.
- Field service or depot-level avionics support experience.
- Strong understanding of systems engineering principles and lifecycle logistics.
