Summary of Job Duties:

This Extra Help: Newsletter Editor/Graphic Designer will work with the Department of Applied Communication faculty to curate, craft, and oversee the production of the annual departmental newsletter for dissemination to targeted stakeholders for the Department of Applied Communication. The person will collaborate with various faculty to gather content, ensure editorial quality, and maintain consistency in tone and messaging. This position is governed by state and federal laws.


Qualifications:

Required Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Art, Graphic Design, Technical Writing, or equivalent.

Job Duties and/or Responsibilities:

  • Curate content for the newsletter by collaborating with faculty members to source materials.

  • Write engaging headlines, subject lines, and summaries.

  • Edit content for clarity, coherence, and adherence to brand voice and style guidelines.

  • Craft compelling calls-to-action (CTAs) to encourage reader engagement and interaction.

  • Utilize design software to create a visually appealing newsletter layout.

  • Ensure the newsletter's design is user-friendly, mobile-responsive, and accessible.

  • Incorporate multimedia elements such as images, videos, and infographics to enhance content.

  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience in editing, content creation, or email marketing.

  • Excellent writing and editing skills with a keen eye for detail and grammar.

  • Familiarity with design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva)

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.

  • An analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and derive actionable insights.

  • Creative thinker with a passion for storytelling and audience engagement.
