Boeing Commercial Aircraft (BCA) is seeking Expert Technical Designer to join our team in Everett, WA.

Partner with technical experts across the enterprise to advance next-generation processes and tools: Enterprise Engineering, PD including Production and Quality Engineering Core, Digital Engineering, SEDAS.

Support all BCA programs by developing and deploying easy-to-use functionality within next-generation design tools (e.g. 3DX) to provide real-time design guidance, requirements and criteria visibility, format and content checks, and similar.

Leverage Boeing structures design experience to develop and deploy “Design for Producibility” strategies, planning and executing a phased approach to incrementally improve Designers’ access to the most current producibility guidance (which may impact decisions relating to technical performance, material and production process selection, cost, rate, weight, etc.). This includes understanding and integrating the intent of designing for process capability and control, risk mitigation standards such as failure modes & effects analysis, designated parts and key characteristics, dimensional engineering and geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (GD&T), and the design-build safety process emerging from current design-build audits.

Support Structures’ efforts to develop and deploy artificial intelligence to streamline access to documented instructions, support part geometry modeling and tolerancing automation, and improve part shape/size optimization concept down-selection.

Develop ‘best practice’ and ‘lessons learned’ content for general design engineering and use of 3DX (collaborating with a technical writer): may include tip sheets, guides, instructions, manuals, handbooks, design practices, CoPs / CoEs, requirements.

Develop working knowledge of ‘design automation’ skills to back up another team member.

Candidate must possess the following traits:

  • Experience with BCA Structures engineering design requirements, documentation and tools.

  • Experience developing engineering software functions and documentation.

  • Experience collecting and documenting manufacturing build producibility requirements.

  • Understand current and in-development engineering layout, approval and release processes and requirements.

  • Comfortable working with a small team on highly variable projects, collating diverse inputs.

  • Demonstrated capability to work independently, take initiative, recruit and lead cross-functional teams.

  • Understand collaboration needs between internal and external organizations to update processes, documents, and software aids.

  • Detail-oriented focus to fulfill compliance requirements with internal and external customers.

  • Ability to effectively collaborate with other teams such as BCA Engineering Operations, Enterprise Engineering, Supply Chain Engineering, Suppliers, Product Development (esp. Production Engineering), Digital and Systems Engineering, IT&DA, and BCA Finance.

  • Demonstrated capabilities with creative thinking, articulating big picture ideas including design demonstration, and advocating new concepts to senior engineers and leaders.

Candidate should have experience with the following tools:

  • Required: Extended experience using CATIA V5, 3D Experience, ENOVIA, PDM, and related release process systems (e.g. ePIE and sub)

  • Required: Experience developing new functionality within CATIA V5 and 3DX

  • Preferred: SharePoint collaborative content generation (i.e. cloud-based Word, Powerpoint, Excel)

  • Preferred: Practice with BCAI, DP Librarian or similar approved Boeing artificial intelligence

  • Bonus: Practice with or desire to learn Visual Basic, Python, or SQL coding

  • Bonus: Practice with or desire to learn ‘design automation’ techniques to create knowledge-based engineering APIs

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provides advice and technical guidance on all aspects of mechanical and structural design.

  • Guides incorporation of new technology into the development of a final product (may be software).

  • Oversees the development/validation of statements of work to ensure completeness and accuracy of the statements.

  • Leads the integration of engineering requirements across internal and external business partners to deliver a functional end-product.

  • Analyzes and resolves unusually complex design and manufacturing problems to improve engineering processes and tools.

  • Oversees the validation of engineering data.

  • Leads integrated engineering meetings to resolve complex problems and document solutions related to processes and procedures.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Associates degree or higher

  • 9+ years related work experience in Structural Technical Design

  • Experience in development and maintenance in documentation focused on Design Engineering

  • Experience in Development and release of Structural engineering packages

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Willingness to work in a highly diverse and changing work environment

Summary Pay Range for Expert level: $104,550 - $141,450
