The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G James and Richard J Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC-James) is committed to providing high quality cancer services in detection, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation. JamesCare for Life offers comprehensive educational and supportive programming to cancer survivors and their families that focuses on the ways life is impacted by a cancer diagnosis. Programs are evidence-based interventions that aid in wellness, healthy lifestyle practices and optimal coping along the cancer survivor continuum. The exercise physiologist (EP) will be responsible for developing and facilitating exercise programming, group exercise supervision, health coaching and participant tracking. They will be responsible for activities involved in the delivery and coordination of exercise programs for cancer survivors and caregivers.
In collaboration with the JCFL Manager and Oncology Rehabilitation leadership, the ideal candidate will research and analyze best-practice models to identify and develop new and innovative program opportunities. Additional activities include benchmarking and trend analysis, collaboration with multidisciplinary committees and workgroups, program implementation and evaluation. Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills are required, including presentation, group facilitation and instruction skills, along with a demonstrated ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
The exercise physiologist (EP) serves as a member of JamesCare for Life within Cancer Support Services. The EP will report to and work closely with the JCFL manager and Cancer Supportive Care leadership in the administration, coordination, and evaluation of community-based exercise programs for cancer survivors and caregivers. This position will assume responsibility for the development and delivery of exercise programs that include group classes, special events, young survivor programs, prevention programs and health coaching. The EP must be able to develop and administer a comprehensive pre-activity screening and be able to provide exercise guidance as an extended member of the health care team. The EP should have a concentrated knowledge and mastery of exercise prescription and fitness for a wide scope of special populations. Previous experience working with cancer survivors or individuals living with chronic illness is preferred.
The person in this position should have broad knowledge and skills related to the cancer continuum, cancer survivorship and evidence-based interventions to support wellness and healthy lifestyle choices. The person in this position will benchmark with other cancer institutions and integrate recommendations from national sources in the planning and implementation of programs and services. The person in this position must possess leadership skills, ability to collaborate and perform independently, and work well within a multi-disciplinary and team-oriented environment.
The department typically operates 8:00am-5:00pm, Monday through Friday, but evening and weekends may be required for execution of roles and responsibilities, particularly to onsite facilitation of groups, classes and outreach activities.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology or Kinesiology
0-2 years of relevant experience
Knowledge of computers (including Word, Excel and social media applications)
Strong communication, customer relations and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's Degree in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology or Kinesiology
ACSM Clinical Exercise Physiologist Certification
Health Coaching Certification
The department typically operates 8:00-5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, but evening and weekends will be required for execution of roles and responsibilities for classes and outreach activities.
