EXECUTIVE SUPPORT SPECIALIST

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the Executive Support Specialist for the Commander, Deputy Commander, or Exective Director at the MAJCOM, NAF, FOA or DRU.

Major Duties:

  • Identifies and analyzes key issues, develops strategies, and advises Commander and senior leadership on recommended courses of action on a broad variety of topics related to MAJCOM, NAF, FOA or DRU functions. Serves as Project Officer for Commander directed initiatives and special interest items. Coordinates review of higher level taskings, identifies best course of action, potential problems, and recommends MAJCOM, NAF, FOA, or DRU response. Plans, organizes and executes complex programs, meetings, and visits (e.g., visits from senior government representatives, senior foreign government representatives, EUCOM, AFRICOM, NATO, NAF and wing commanders).

Qualifications: In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions. GS-12 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-11, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes:(1) preparing reports and delivering briefings to encourage understanding and acceptance of findings and recommendations (2) conducting research to prepare data/reports to support decision-making processes for current or future plans and operations (3) coordinating the work efforts of others to ensure the completion of project objectives within established time frames. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-11 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-12 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. GS-13 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-12, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes: (1) planning and directing executive-level management support activities and functions; (2) serving as a project officer by accurately identify needed resources and facilitating project progression toward identified milestones and goals; (3) analyzing data and constructing fact-based data driven information and/or recommendations to aid senior leaders in decision making. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of a wide range of principles, practices, and quantitative and qualitative evaluative techniques used in program analysis to identify, evaluate, resolve, and present issues or problems to isolate discrepancies or identify trends that impact organizational mission objectives both operationally and strategically. 2. Knowledge of analytical and evaluative methods and techniques as well as measurement of data to plan, schedule, and conduct projects and studies to evaluate and recommend ways to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of program operations to include adapting or developing new or modified methods 3. Knowledge of and skill in designing and conducting comprehensive studies, and developing solutions to broad operational and contingency areas. 4. Knowledge of the missions, roles, functions, organizational structures, relationships, and operational planning objectives of Air Force and DoD organizations. 5. Skill in gathering, evaluating, and interpreting data sufficient to arrive at valid, supportable conclusions and to offer meaningful recommendations. 6. Skill in planning and independently managing short and long-term projects and to cultivate and sustain positive working relationships to project completion. Ability to communicate effectively with tact and diplomacy to advocate command positions and build successful cross-functional teams; to logically and effectively explain programs, functions, and activities and gain understanding of the organization's efforts. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
