About Our Team
The Science, Technology, and Medical Journals (STMJ) team at Elsevier is dedicated to making our journals a premier destination for authors. We collaborate with researchers to facilitate the publication of their impactful scientific discoveries, with a focus on rigorous peer review, ethics, and research integrity. In support of our portfolio of 2700+ hybrid and open access scientific journals, you will actively contribute to advancing science, improving health outcomes.
The Health and Medical Sciences (HMS) portfolio, includes over 1,000 journals across various medical specialties predominantly around surgery and dental science. We support and collaborate with editors, authors, reviewers and researchers worldwide, as well as supporting a large number of high-profile journals that are owned by medical societies and associations.
About the Role
As an Executive Publisher in HMS, you will manage and proactively develop a journal portfolio, lead journal-related changes and drive growth. You will build successful partnerships with societies and individuals to develop mutually beneficial long-term collaboration. You will act as a China Champion for HMS China strategic initiative and implementation plan. You will also represent your Publishing Director and the team in department and company-wide projects as needed.
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Executive Publisher to lead the strategic development and operational management of our portfolio within HMS.
Responsibilities
Lead strategic planning & portfolio development and financial performance of a portfolio, by collaborating with strategy, marketing, society, finance, and operations.
Manage a portfolio of journals/societies/editors and steer editors’ behavior and performance, implement portfolio strategies and drive growth.
Build and maintain a network within the research community, engage in high-level industry discussions and translate customer trends into innovative strategies.
Act as a China Champion in your team, proactively expand China network, drive strategies and implementation plans for priority strategic initiatives that fulfil HMS China goals.
Work closely with other teammates and help coach junior colleagues, help deliver on collaborative projects and contribute to team goals. Represent your Publishing Director and the team in department and company-wide projects as needed.
Requirements
Have relevant publishing experience with a deep understanding of journal development, and with strong knowledge of the global publishing industry and related research/policy drivers;
Have demonstrated acumen in data driven decision making, driving strategic initiative goals including commercial goals by participating in budget planning cycle, and achieving KPIs within the agreed upon budget;
Have demonstrated strategic and innovative thinking in developing new opportunities;
Have proven ability to build high-level contacts within the scientific community and translate customer needs into strategic actions;
Have impactful communication and presentation skills, the ability to influence in a matrix organization and interact effectively with people in all roles at all levels;
You embrace curiosity and collaborate across barriers in function, culture and approach.
