The Executive Director, Systems & Data Integration, is a senior technology leader responsible for setting the vision, strategy, and governance for all integration and interoperability capabilities across the enterprise. Reporting to the VP of Technology & Innovation, this role provides oversight of interface development, application integration, clinical device integration, data migration, and archival support for clinical, financial, and operational systems.
This leader ensures scalable, secure, and standards-based integration across the organization, enabling seamless interoperability between EHR, ERP, revenue cycle, and third-party systems. The Executive Director leads multiple functional teams through subordinate leaders and is accountable for strategic direction, operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and innovation in integration technologies.

Job Description:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities, including but not limited to: 


1.    Provide leadership oversight across multiple integration and data domains, including:
a.    Interface Engineering (HL7, X12, device integration)
b.    API & FHIR Integration
c.    Clinical Device Integration
d.    Data Migration
e.    Data Archival
2.    Lead through Directors and Managers, ensuring alignment, execution, and accountability across teams.
3.    Oversee integration platforms and middleware to ensure scalability, reliability, and performance, and drive standardization and reuse of integration services across the enterprise.
4.    Ensure high availability and performance of integration services supporting mission-critical systems.
5.    Establish and monitor SLAs, KPIs, and operational metrics across all integration functions.
6.    Ensure business continuity, disaster recovery, and capacity planning strategies are in place.
7.    Ensure adherence to all regulatory, security, and data privacy requirements and maintain compliance with healthcare data exchange standards and audit requirements.
8.    Partner with executive leadership to enable digital transformation, interoperability, and data-driven initiatives.
9.    Partner with clinical, operational, and business leaders to prioritize projects and communicate strategy, progress, and outcomes to senior leadership.
10.    Oversee vendor relationships, partnerships, and service performance related to integration technologies.
11.    Build and sustain a high-performing leadership team (Directors, Managers) and foster a culture of innovation, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering discipline required.

Licensure, Certification & Registration:

Certification in Epic Bridges and/or other Epic modules.

Experience:

10+ years related work experience

5+ years of experience in healthcare IT environments, preferably with Epic EHR

5+ years of leadership/management experience

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

Leadership & Strategy:

  • Proven ability to define and execute enterprise integration strategy and roadmap
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing large, multi-layered teams through Directors and Managers
  • Ability to influence and partner with executive leadership and cross-functional stakeholders
  • Strong decision-making and prioritization skills in complex, high-stakes environments

Technical & Domain Expertise:

  • Deep expertise in healthcare integration standards (HL7, FHIR, X12, DICOM)
  • Strong knowledge of API management, middleware platforms, and interoperability frameworks
  • Experience with Epic integration ecosystem (Bridges, Interconnect, App Orchard)
  • Understanding of clinical workflows, revenue cycle, and ERP integrations
  • Expertise in data migration strategies, data archival solutions, and legacy system decommissioning
  • Familiarity with cloud-based integration architectures (AWS, Azure, or GCP)

Operational Excellence:

  • Ability to establish and manage SLAs, KPIs, and performance metrics
  • Strong experience in high-availability systems, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning
  • Proven track record of driving standardization, automation, and reuse of integration services
  • Experience managing large-scale, mission-critical integration environments

Compliance & Risk Management:

  • Strong knowledge of HIPAA, HITECH, and healthcare data privacy/security regulations
  • Experience ensuring compliance with audit requirements and data governance standards
  • Ability to manage risk, security, and regulatory considerations in data exchange

Communication & Collaboration:

  • Excellent executive-level communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to translate technical concepts into business value
  • Strong stakeholder management across clinical, operational, and IT domains
  • Vendor management and negotiation skills

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

  • 10+ years of experience in healthcare IT integration, with significant exposure to Epic environments
  • Prior experience in a large, complex health system or academic medical center
  • Strong background in vendor and partner ecosystem management
  • Experience leading enterprise-wide interoperability or digital transformation initiatives
  • Exposure to AI/ML-driven integration, automation, or data pipeline initiatives
  • Experience with cloud migration and hybrid integration models

 

 

Pay Range:

$212,000.00 USD - $250,000.00 USD

The pay range listed for this position is the annual base salary range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.
