About this role:

Wells Fargo’s Physical Commodities Trading platform is seeking an experienced Executive Director to join its Energy Origination and Structuring business, with a specific focus on municipal natural gas and power prepayment transactions (“Muni Prepays”) and other complex structured energy financings.

This individual will play a central role in expanding Wells Fargo’s footprint across physical energy, downstream natural gas, public power, and tax-exempt energy markets. The role is tailored for a senior professional currently operating within a FICC Commodities or Global Markets environment at an investment bank, major energy company, or hedge fund, with a demonstrated track record of originating, structuring, and executing Muni Prepay transactions.

The position requires close collaboration with Municipal Finance / Public Finance Banking, Legal, Credit, Liquidity, Market Risk, and Trading partners in order to originate, structure, model, and execute multi-decade energy transactions.

In this role, you will:

  • Origination: Lead the identification, sourcing, and execution of municipal natural gas and power prepayment transactions, with Wells Fargo acting as prepaid supplier, swap counterparty, municipal underwriter, and/or funding recipient.
  • Structuring: Design, model, and execute complex structured energy financing transactions, including Muni Prepays, coordinating closely with legal, credit, liquidity, market risk, tax, and trading stakeholders.
  • Relationship Management: Maintain and expand a senior-level network of relationships with prepaid suppliers, qualifying use participants (including utilities and downstream energy consumers), municipal aggregators, joint action agencies, load serving entities (LSEs), and community choice aggregators to drive sustainable deal flow.
  • Risk Mitigation: Partner with trading desks to source physical volumes and implement hedging strategies to manage physical delivery obligations and commodity price exposure inherent in long-dated structured energy transactions.
  • Execution Leadership: Drive transactions from structuring through execution, ensuring compliance with internal risk governance, regulatory requirements, and business process expectations.
  • Collaboration: Consult and collaborate with peers, senior leaders, and cross-functional partners across Markets and Banking to resolve complex issues and deliver integrated client solutions.
  • Market Insight: Provide thought leadership on industry trends, regulatory developments, and structural innovations impacting the municipal energy and tax-exempt financing landscape.

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of Securities Sales experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

  • 5+ years of experience in capital markets, energy origination, commodities, or municipal finance at a top-tier financial institution or merchant energy firm.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated, hands-on track record of originating and executing municipal natural gas and/or power prepayment transactions.
  • Deep understanding of physical energy markets, structured energy finance, and tax-exempt municipal financing.
  • Proven experience working across trading, banking, legal, tax, and risk functions.
  • Strong financial modeling experience for non-recourse and structured energy transactions.
  • Established credibility with senior decision-makers across municipal and public power clients.

Job Expectations:

  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time to attend client meetings and industry conferences.
  • This position is subject to Dodd-Frank Background Screening Requirements, including successful completion and clearing of a background screen. Applicants are subject to a new screen to comply with Title VII of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act which states that Associated Persons (AP) cannot be subject to statutory disqualification. Under industry regulations, an AP is defined as a team member who solicits or accepts client orders for swaps. Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to demonstrated examples of prior performance, skills, experience, or work location. Employees may also be eligible for incentive opportunities.

$215,000.00 - $355,000.00
