The goal of CIBC’s Capital Markets business is to be the premier client-focused wholesale bank based in Canada. To deliver on this, the Capital Markets arm of CIBC provides a wide range of credit, capital markets, investment banking, and research products and services to government, institutional, corporate and retail clients in Canada and in key markets around the world.
The incumbent will lead the SSA syndicate function (including distribution of private placement, structured debt products and derivative support) within the Government Solutions Group (“GSG”) for CIBC Capital Markets. The role operates in a fast-paced trading floor environment as part of a dynamic, hardworking, production-focused sales team. The incumbent’s mandate is to originate and distribute vanilla and structured private placements for GSG clients, with a focus on USD, GBP, EUR, HKD, AUD and other product as may be applicable within the bank’s global network. The individual must be a trusted partner, providing dedicated global coverage for the product in conjunction with colleagues in Asia and North America.
Syndicate:
Lead the government syndication effort for EMEA/Asia issuers on all aspects of the book-built new issue execution process
Lead the creation of a new global MTN desk to market, price and execute private placements for GSG clients
Engage with investors, sales, trading and derivative structuring to grow a global support network for the MTN product, with a specific focus on distribution
Cultivate relationships with key global investors, in conjunction with existing sales coverage
Develop and price trade ideas in a manner which can be effectively and efficiently communicated to clients
Explore new product offerings (AUD product, callable notes, other structures, etc.) and engage with internal counterparties on new product approvals
Work in tandem with new issue support (Toronto and NY) to formalize, record and streamline new issue process & documentation
Support the wider GSG team in any required capacity
Derivatives:
Provide funding and derivatives solutions in a timely manner with exemplary service
Possess a strong understanding of cash/derivative operations and settlement, work closely with internal and external ops teams, help streamline day to day operational processes
Cross-sell ancillary products, depending on product availability and client mandates, whilst at all times making sound judgment
Work closely with marketers, traders, structuring to develop appropriate solutions and timely execution of OTC interest rate derivatives, global financing and cross-asset products
Initiate and develop client relationships including outbound and follow up calls, value-add idea generation, client meetings/presentations and customized solutions providing trusted advice
Work with trading desks in various jurisdictions to formulate ideas that fit the risk profile of various desks, communicate flow and themes with clients and understand the risks and economics behind each trade
Other business lines across CIBC and functional groups, including: Sales, Trading, Risk Management, Finance, Compliance, Tax, Legal, Controllers, Audit and Human Resources
As an employee of CIBC, the incumbent must comply with all applicable CIBC and Line of Business policies, standards, guidelines and controls
As a key contributor to the business unit, this job has the authority to recommend changes to business processes in order to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness
Minimum 8+ years related experience; MBA, CFA or other relevant professional designation preferred with strong knowledge of Capital Markets products
Relevant MTN experience with a proven track record of results in private placement marketing and execution
Strong overall knowledge of Capital Markets with sufficient knowledge of the financial services industry / regulatory environment
Excellent analytical and intellectual capabilities; ability to draft comprehensive presentations using advanced frameworks in PowerPoint, Excel and Word
Thorough understanding of cross-market implications and ability to uncover and discuss arbitrage opportunities
Familiarity with Origination, Syndication and Swaps Marketing
Relationships with Government Sector clients and private placement investors are preferred

•Requires occasional-to-frequent domestic (UK/Europe) travel and occasional international travel
