Executive Director, Health Impact

What you will do

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role as the Executive Director, Health Impact you will lead enterprise efforts to better understand and address the factors that drive uneven patient experiences and outcomes.

As part of the Inclusive Global Health and Impact (IGHI) team, which includes Representation in Clinical Research and Access to Healthcare, you will work across functions to shape Amgen’s strategic approach to advancing more inclusive and patient-centered systems, from research and clinical development through access and post-market engagement.

In this highly visible leadership role, you will serve as a member of the IGHI Senior Leadership Team (IGHI SLT)—helping to shape the organization’s long-term strategy and ensuring alignment across global health impact priorities.

You will also act as a key strategic partner and advisor to the Chief Medical Officer (OCMO) and the ATMOS SLT, providing enterprise accountability and cohesive execution of Amgen’s Health Impact agenda. 

This role reports into Vice President, Head of IGHI. This role will have a travel requirement of 30%, US & Global.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a core member of the IGHI SLT, contributing to strategic direction, organizational planning, resourcing decisions, and cross-functional integration across IGHI’s mission areas (RISE, ATH, and Health Impact).

  • Represent the Health Impact function within the IGHI SLT to ensure coordinated execution, shared learning, and consistent alignment across enterprise health equity initiatives.

  • Develop and execute an enterprise-wide strategy to strengthen Amgen’s work in advancing fair, patient-centered health outcomes including regional and country specific health impact goals/objectives

  • Partner with cross functional stakeholders to share, inform, advise and collaborate on the external health equity landscape and ecosystem

  • Develop budget and team resourcing in collaboration with IGHI SLT

  • Serve as a senior advisor to executive leadership on U.S. and global policy trends, external expectations, and emerging scientific, clinical, and societal insights.

  • Integrate inclusive-design principles and population insights across R&D, clinical trials, regulatory interactions, commercial planning, and patient access programs.

  • Build and manage high-impact partnerships with academic institutions, advocacy groups, policymakers, and other external stakeholders.

  • Represent Amgen in external forums and with prominent thought leaders, bringing strong credibility in issues related to access, disparities, and population health.

  • Leverage data, digital solutions, and AI-driven analytics to identify gaps and inform targeted interventions across the patient journey.

  • Navigate competing priorities and broker alignment among internal teams with diverse perspectives and objectives.

  • Establish frameworks, metrics, and accountability mechanisms that embed inclusive practices across the organization.

  • Lead, coach, and inspire a team committed to bold thinking, innovation, and collaborative problem-solving.

The candidate we seek is an experienced leader with the following qualifications.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree & 6 years of relevant experience OR

  • Master’s degree & 10 years of relevant experience OR

  • Bachelor’s degree & 12 years of relevant experience AND

  • 6 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Deep knowledge of the healthcare industry, including U.S. and global systems, policy structures, regulatory pathways, reimbursement, and patient access dynamics.

  • Strong ability to navigate conflicting interests among internal stakeholders with diplomacy, clarity, and strategic influence.

  • Existing relationships and credibility with key opinion leaders focused on patient access, public health, policy, community health, or related spaces.

  • Experience with clinical trials, diverse patient representation, and the regulatory environment.

  • Creative, bold, and innovative thinker with a record of designing and launching breakthrough programs or strategies.

  • Familiarity with data science, digital tools, and AI applications in healthcare.

  • Exceptional communication skills; comfortable operating in complex, rapidly shifting, and high-visibility environments.

  • Flexible, resilient, and thick-skinned, with the ability to absorb challenges while maintaining focus and momentum.

  • Demonstrated ability to influence without authority in a matrixed environment.

The annual base salary range for this opportunity in the U.S. $278,446 - $327,499.
