The salary is determined in accordance with the University’s compensation structure and will be commensurate with the candidates’ education and experience, within the assigned salary range for this position.

The Executive Director of the PVAMU Panther Data Hub & Analytics provides strategic and operational leadership for Prairie View A&M University’s Data Hub and Data War Room at the NW Houston Center. This role oversees data technologies, dashboards, and visualization environments; leads training and capacity-building programs for faculty, staff, and students; and serves as a key institutional partner in using data to inform planning, decision-making, and targeted interventions that support student success and operational effectiveness.

This position is funded by a grant or restricted funds. Continued employment is contingent on the renewal of grant or restricted funding.

Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership & Institutional Analytics:

  • Provide vision, strategy, and leadership for PVAMU’s centralized Data Hub and enterprise analytics function, aligning analytics priorities with institutional goals related to student success, enrollment, impartiality, retention, completion, and operational performance.

  • Serve as the institutional authority on analytics strategy, ensuring consistent, rigorous, and ethical use of data across all divisions.

  • Anticipate emerging data needs and proactively design analytical frameworks that support long-term planning and timely executive decision-making.

Data Curation, Integration & Governance:

  • Lead, with university data partners, the curation, integration, and stewardship of institutional data from academic, student, financial, HR, and operational systems, ensuring data accuracy, consistency, and usability.

  • Partner closely with Institutional Research, IT/CITE, and data governance bodies to define standards, resolve data discrepancies, and promote shared definitions and metrics.

  • Ensure compliance with FERPA, privacy regulations, and institutional data governance policies while enabling appropriate access for analysis and decision support.

Visualization, Storytelling & Key Discoveries:

  • Oversee the design and delivery of high-impact dashboards, scorecards, and visual analytics that clearly communicate key discoveries and patterns in the data.

  • Translate complex analyses into clear, compelling data stories tailored to executive leadership, deans, department heads, and other stakeholders.

  • Highlight insights that directly inform action—connecting analytical findings to strategic choices, policy implications, and intervention opportunities that impact student success.

Capacity Building & Data Literacy:

  • Design and lead data literacy, analytics, and visualization training programs that build institutional capacity to understand and responsibly use data.

  • Mentor analysts and staff, fostering a culture of analytical excellence, curiosity, and continuous improvement.

  • Promote shared understanding of data concepts, metrics, and analytical best practices across the university.

Advanced Analytics & Statistical Analysis:

  • Lead and conduct deep, methodologically sound statistical analyses, including predictive, diagnostic, and trend analyses that identify drivers of student success and institutional performance.

  • Design and oversee analytical models that support early alerts, targeted interventions, program evaluation, and resource allocation.

  • Ensure analytical rigor by selecting appropriate methodologies, validating assumptions, and clearly articulating limitations and implications of findings.

Executive Consultation & Decision Support:

  • Serve as a trusted analytics advisor and consultant to senior leaders, providing data-informed recommendations and scenario analyses to support institutional priorities.

  • Participate in executive briefings, cabinet-level discussions, and strategic planning efforts to ensure decisions are grounded in evidence.

  • Support leaders in interpreting results, understanding trade-offs, and applying analytics to real-world institutional challenges.

Data Hub & Data War Room Operations:

  • Direct the operation and continuous enhancement of the Data Hub and Data War Room as collaborative, high-impact environments for analytics, planning, and strategic dialogue.

  • Ensure analytics tools and environments are user-centered, scalable, and responsive to evolving institutional needs.

  • Establish processes for intake, prioritization, and delivery of analytics requests across divisions.

Leadership & Collaboration:

  • Lead and manage analytics staff and cross-functional project teams, setting clear expectations, goals, and performance standards.

  • Collaborate across academic and administrative units to break down silos and promote integrated, institution-wide analytics.

  • Support change management efforts related to analytics adoption and cultural shifts toward data-informed decision-making.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in data analytics, information systems, computer science, statistics, education, public administration, or a related field.

  • Ten years (10) year progressively responsible management experience in data analytics, business intelligence, institutional research, or data-driven decision support.

  • Demonstrated experience managing enterprise data platforms, dashboards, and visualization tools.

  • Proven ability to translate complex data into actionable insights for senior leaders and various stakeholders.

  • Experience designing and delivering training or professional development related to data, analytics, or technology.

  • Strong knowledge of data governance principles, data quality, and data privacy/compliance requirements.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Technical & Analytical Skills:

  • Advanced ability to curate, clean, integrate, and analyze complex datasets from multiple enterprise systems.

  • Expertise in statistical analysis, quantitative methods, and applied analytics, with the ability to select and defend appropriate methodologies.

  • Strong proficiency in data visualization and business intelligence tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, SQL-based environments, cloud analytics platforms).

  • Ability to design and interpret predictive and explanatory models related to student success and institutional performance.

Communication & Data Storytelling:

  • Exceptional skill in translating complex analytical findings into clear, actionable insights for non-technical audiences.

  • Ability to convey key discoveries through compelling narratives, visuals, and executive-level presentations.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills tailored to various stakeholder groups.

Strategic & Consultative Leadership:

  • Demonstrated ability to advise and influence senior leaders using data-driven evidence.

  • Strong strategic thinking skills, with the ability to connect analytics to institutional priorities and outcomes.

  • Ability to balance analytical rigor with practical decision-making timelines.

Collaboration & Change Management:

  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and work effectively across organizational boundaries.

  • Experience fostering trust in data through transparency, governance, and shared understanding.

  • Skilled in guiding cultural change toward analytics adoption and data-informed practice.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s or Doctoral degree in a related field preferred.

  • Experience in higher education, particularly in institutional research, student success analytics, or academic/administrative analytics.

  • Experience leading or launching a centralized data hub, analytics center, or enterprise reporting environment.

  • Advanced experience with data visualization and analytics platforms (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, SQL-based environments, cloud analytics tools).

  • Demonstrated success leading cross-functional teams and managing complex, institution-wide initiatives.

  • Familiarity with data governance frameworks and change management in large or complex organizations.

  • Flexible work arrangements for partial remote work may be available after six months.
