JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 20

WORK SHIFT: Friday - Sunday: 12:00p - 4:00p

JOB SUMMARY: 

The Environmental Services Technician II is responsible for providing a safe care environment for patients, and staff (visitors as appropriate to setting) within a specialty area (surgical services/per-operative suite, Cath lab, endoscopy etc.) achieved by demonstrating the principles of cleaning, disinfection, and quality assurance toward the reduction of harmful pathogens for the benefit of patients, visitors, and staff.  While executing the assigned tasks, the EVS Tech II will have indirect contact with patients and family and will need to be able to professionally communicate the cleaning process when required. Responsible for ensuring timely room turns related to patient throughput within the basic principles of environmental hygiene and infection prevention. The environmental services technician II, in accordance with organizational standards of quality, is an essential contributor to cleaning, disinfection, infection prevention and patient experience.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • St. Tammany Health System will provide on-the-job training, which includes effective cleaning techniques, choosing the correct cleaning agents including dwell times, operating vacuums, adhering to health and safety regulations, and demonstrating good customer service skills. 
  • Basic math skills and the ability to follow instructions. 
  • Required to have both the Certified Health Care Environmental Services Technician (CHEST) and Certified Surgical Cleaning Technician (CSCT) within 12 months of hire.
  • One (1) year health care environmental services experience required.
  • Can distinguish the differences between levels of disinfection and perform low and intermediate level disinfection. 
  • Ability to explain orally or in writing the differences between levels of disinfection and perform intermediate level disinfection in areas where required. 
  • Can demonstrate effective use of computers and/or mobile devices for daily job performance activities.
  • Respectfully listens to viewpoints and ideas of others.
  • Ability to communicate orally or in writing openly and candidly, creates an environment where co-workers and team members reciprocate in kind.
  • Respectfully listens to and respects the viewpoints and ideas of others.

 
Preferred Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 
Must possess good physical health.  Some requirements include but are not limited to standing, sitting or walking for long periods of time.  Lifting at least 20 pounds is required, with the exception of lifting overhead (limited to 3 pounds).
Physical Effort required:        
Constant (67%-100%) – handling/feeling, talking, hearing, seeing
Frequently (34%-66%) - stooping, crouching
Occasionally (1%-33%) - lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, climbing (stairs, ladders, etc.), balancing, crawling, reaching
