EU Senior Payroll Specialist

Position Summary:

 As the full-time EU Senior Payroll Specialist, you will independently work to execute EU payroll processing for multiple countries (including employees in countries outside of the EU, potentially) using our third-party payroll vendor and local in-country partners.  You will seek to continuously improve our processes and employee engagement. You will report to the Sr. Manager, Global Payroll, and work closely with EU HR, Legal, Accounting, EU Controller, external accounting firm, in-country payroll partners as well as employees and managers.

Work Model:

Remote: Officially documented as working full-time from home, with travel to Ultragenyx's offices or other locations on occasion as needed.

Responsibilities:

1. Independently manage payroll vendor and in-country partners 
2. Responsible for compiling, reviewing, auditing monthly changes and payroll register for variances, and timely submission of payroll to our third-party payroll partner for current EU countries  
3. Responsible for implementing payroll setup for new jurisdictions, including payroll vendor updates and collaborating with internal and external partners 
4. Partner with internal and external legal teams regarding labor regulations and opinions 
5. Responsible for & respond to audits performed by local statutory agencies, internal auditors & external auditors 
6. Partner with in-country partners and our internal and external accounting teams for month/quarter end close reporting for local books 
7. Recommend policy and procedure changes towards continuous improvement 
8. Understanding and management of accruals and time off policies 
9. Manage OneView ticketing system for your region and assist with managing Payroll mailbox and internal Ultragenyx payroll ticketing system 
10. Responsible for managing and validating vacation use, accruals, and timely vacation payments 
11. Resolve payroll and tax issues quickly, efficiently and with a high degree of customer service; escalating or redirecting if needed 

Requirements:

1. A degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Management, Human Resources or relevant experience preferred 
2. 5+ years progressive experience in EU payroll 
3. Strong understanding of payroll and legislation across multiple jurisdictions in the EU 
4. Good knowledge of payroll and benefit regulations in EU countries 
5. Understanding of tax regulations in EU countries 
6. Understanding and management of accruals and time off policies for the EU 
7. Expertise in liaising and working closely with HR, Benefits, Finance, and third-party payroll vendors. 
8. Effective analytical and problem-solving skills  
9. Flexibility to adapt to a fast-evolving environment 
10. Excellent customer service and team support experience 
11. Experience with a major HCM system required; prior UKG experience is a plus 
12. Willing to learn and expand knowledge
