POSITION OVERVIEW
As an ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Teacher works with students to provide targeted language support. The main focus is helping students develop English proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing so they can succeed in a class setting. And you will do meaningful work that makes a difference for our students as you:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Administer state-approved English language proficiency screeners (WIDA Screener) and support identification of Multilingual Learners in accordance with South Carolina guidelines.
The ESOL prepares for and administer ACCESS for ELLs annually and analyze results to inform instruction and program placement.
Develop and maintain Individual Language Acquisition Plans (ILAPs) and ensure proper documentation of services and accommodations.
Provide push-in and/or pull-out instructional support aligned to content standards using sheltered instruction strategies (e.g., SIOP).
Collaborate with classroom teachers to ensure appropriate scaffolds and language supports are embedded in daily instruction.
The ESOL communicates effectively with families of ML students, ensuring access to translated materials and interpretation services as needed.
Monitor student progress toward English proficiency and support reclassification and required monitoring of exited students.
The ESOL ensures compliance with all federal (Title III) and South Carolina Department of Education requirements related to Multilingual Learners.
Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS THAT SET YOU UP FOR SUCCESS
Bachelor’s degree.
A current teaching certificate from within the state position is located.
Valid ESOL OR ESL Certification.
The incumbent in this position will be required to pass a criminal history background check.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Local and in-state travel is required.
This position requires the need to lift objects (up to 25 pounds) on occasion.
This position may require sitting for long periods at times, talking on the phone, standing, kneeling, stooping and long periods of concentration.
