About the role
• Lead technical discussions with external auditors on complex ESG reporting matters and support the reporting aspects of wider Group projects
• Work closely with senior partners (Investor Relations, Chief Accountant, Reporting Director and Group Controller) to resolve complex ESG accounting and reporting issues
• Act as the main contact within the Chief Accountant team for ESG technical questions raised by the wider finance and non-finance community
• Support the implementation and interpretation of new ESG reporting standards and sustainability regulations
• Collaborate with the Non-Financial Reporting team on technical matters, including double materiality assessments, sustainability standards interpretation, and ESG disclosures in the Group’s Annual Report and ESG Reporting Index
• Support the compliant and timely preparation of external non-financial disclosures and reports by:
Crafting and maintaining the ESG Reporting Manual and related technical position papers
Preparing technical papers on complex sustainability reporting issues and driving alignment with key partners, including Group auditors
Supervising compliance with Group policies and updating them in line with new ESG standards and interpretations
• Build strong relationships with internal functions and senior partners to ensure compliance with reporting requirements and timely resolution of technical issues
• Maintain external engagement with peer companies and industry groups, including benchmarking and participating in ESG reporting advocacy activities
• Liaise with Group auditors during interim and annual audits to support the review of ESG reporting and disclosures.
About You
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Finance or Accounting
Professional qualification (ACCA, CPA) is an advantage
10+ years of strong financial accounting experience, including significant IFRS reporting exposure
Solid understanding of ESG reporting regulations in the EU and UK
Experience preparing accounting papers, reporting manuals, and leading changes in reporting standards
Experience working in a multinational environment across diverse commercial and cultural markets
Strong analytical skills with the ability to understand wider business drivers
Good understanding of Diageo processes and applications, capable of leading all aspects of complex processes and identifying improvement opportunities
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of clearly articulating ideas to collaborators and senior management
Ability to engage and empower others to drive solutions
Strong teammate who supports collaboration and achievement of team goals
Accountable, driven and committed to strong controls
High level of integrity, ethics and trustworthiness
Proficient in English with strong drafting skills and the ability to explain technical topics clearly
Self-motivated and well organised, with experience running multiple workstreams and projects simultaneously
