Team description 
The mission of Integrated Risk is focused on providing risk identification, aggregation and insight capabilities at Group level across the various Risk domains. The team department is using those capabilities across the various risk functions, to assume a general oversight of risk governance, policies and frameworks, and to steer group-wide model and implementation activities across locations.

Specific Function
The purpose of ESG Risk is to develop and maintain methodologies and models to identify, manage, and mitigate risks arising from ESG factors, which are having an increasingly significant impact on financial performance, regulatory compliance and organizational integrity. In addition, ESG-related compliance activities - such as those related to CSRD and sustainable product oversight i.e. greenwashing risk) - will be integrated into the existing the ESG risk framework.

Job description
Senior specialist responsibility for developing and maintaining the ESG Risk Framework and ESG Risk Dashboard. Will develop, maintain and implement the ESG Risk Policies, ESG Risk Models & Methodologies, including ESG related risk model development with a focus on negative impact models.   

Specific Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain the ESG Risk Framework and oversee its implementation across ING. This includes the development and maintenance of ESG Risk Policies, Models and Methodologies, with a focus on negative impact and financial risk.

  • Support the implementation of the ESG Risk Framework across Retail Banking, Business Banking and Wholesale Banking.

  • Map, assess, and implement ESG-related regulations in a timely and correct manner within the risk management frameworks. This ensures ING meets regulatory and societal expectations on ESG and continues to mature ING’s ESG risk management capabilities.         

  • Manage stakeholder relationships up to MBB L1; provide expert guidance to local risk units and oversee budgeting and resource alignment with the regulatory strategy.

Specific Knowledge and Experience

  • University / Postgraduate. Finance, economics, engineering, nature science.

  • Overall 7+ years work experience in the financial industry with deep & practical experience in ESG principles, ESG risk frameworks and industry standards as well as regulation. In addition, deep knowledge about climate & nature science, the relevant climate scenarios and the climate change mitigation challenges and nature dependencies of several sectors is needed.

  • Deep expertise: Needs a broad understanding of the application of climate science to our clients business models & transitioning of the real economy, only partially reflected in the Bank’s internal requirements

  • Strategic planning & implementation: Proven experience in developing risk strategies to manage risk management cycle for climate & nature as well as translating those strategies into effective end-to-end processes & tools

  • Risk management: Expertise in ESG related risk drivers, transmission challenges & their effect on the different risk categories, plus practical experience in developing risk models to manage ESG related risk drivers based on data

  • Balances stakeholders: Highly experienced in complex stakeholder management balancing different commercial and risk needs

  • Dilemma management & decision quality: Ability to balance strategic direction in a changing external environment.

  • Communicates effectively & collaborates: Ability to translate ING ESG risk framework and ESG developments in clear risk strategies

  • Values: Strong commitment to ING’s Orange Code values and behaviours, and especially to the sustainability strategy
