ESG Research Analyst, BMO Global Asset Management

BMO GAM’s Sustainable Investment team oversees the firm’s ESG initiatives and supports all investment teams in integrating ESG considerations into the investment process. In addition to supporting investment processes, the team owns and executes on BMO GAM’s firm-wide sustainable investment strategy, develops sustainability research for internal and external consumption and executes stewardship activities including engagement and proxy voting. The team works with both internal and external stakeholders across all sales channels in both asset management and the wider wealth businesses.

We are hiring for an ESG Research Analyst to apply research and analytical skills to investigate and evaluate ESG risks and opportunities across our investments, help inform internal decision-making, and support corporate engagements on ESG themes.

The successful candidate will report to the Director of Climate Change and work closely with SI team members, investment teams and other internal stakeholders to ensure SI activities support business needs. We are looking for an individual with excellent organizational and critical thinking skills that can juggle multiple assignments and deadlines to meet the needs of the team.

Key elements of the role include:

ESG Research

  • Undertake sustainability research across various sectors and themes to support risk management, develop internal insights, and help inform decision-making.
  • Research sector-based risks, opportunities, and transition pathways to support the evaluation of risks and opportunities across our portfolio
  • Supports the development of internal sector, market, and macro thematic expertise

Stewardship Support

  • Supports the SI stewardship team with research for corporate engagements

Reporting & Analytics

  • Supports ESG data integration and reporting for PMs, including assisting in the development and improvement of internal ESG-related tools, databases and processes

Communications & Reporting

  • Supports internal and external communications and reporting requirements, including the development of materials for internal stakeholders and external sustainable investment-related disclosures.

Other

  • Supporting senior members of the team an ad-hoc projects as required

Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of direct or relevant experience and post-secondary degree in related field of study (i.e. Finance, Business Administration, Applied Science) or an equivalent professional experience.
  • Deep understanding of a commercial asset management business including asset classes, benchmarks and styles of investing
  • Able to maintain effectiveness, accuracy and performance in a fast-paced and demanding environment with multiple concurrent priorities.
  • Verbal & written communication skills - In-depth.
  • Experience using, preparing and analysing quantitative and qualitative data – In-depth
  • Excellent organizational skills; strong attention to detail – In-depth
  • Demonstrated written and data visualization communication skills – In-depth
  • Collaboration & team skills – In-depth
  • Passionate about sustainable investment and ESG issues, experience with ESG in the investment context is considered an asset

Salary:

$63,700.00 - $118,300.00

The above represents BMO Financial Group’s pay range and type.

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.

BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
