The Boeing CompanyBoeing Mesa, home of the AH-64E Apache, is seeking a Senior Equipment and Tool Engineering designer located in Mesa, AZ.
Our tool engineering team supports products in the final assembly, composite center, fabrication shops, and production flight test centers.
The selected candidate will be working with a large team of tool engineers and designers and will collaborate daily with our tool liaison, tool quality, and tool stress teammates. Other onsite support areas include tool fabrication, tool inspection, engineering, production safety, and production operators.
Position Responsibilities:
Candidate will be responsible for checking tool design packages for various programs including the Apache, AH-6 Little Bird, and other BDS and BCA offloads that come into our Tool Engineering team.
Responsibilities include 3D model check, 2D drawing design check, verification, and signoff on tool designs in relation to the engineering components they will produce.
Candidate will communicate tool engineering best practices and procedures to other production areas such as manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering, and design engineering.
Candidate shall provide mentoring to teammates in relation to all Boeing tool design and fabrication procedures and specifications.
Other roles include pre-program tooling oversight, estimating, drawing release, first tool use, and supporting our production engineering team.
This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
7+ years of checking experience in an engineering environment.
10+ years tool design including experience in design of drill jigs, locate & assembly fixtures, bond jigs, lifting equipment, and large scale portable mechanical equipment.
5+ years working with both Metallic & Composite tooling
5+ years of experience with 3D software Catia/Enovia and/or NX/Teamcenter
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
2+ years of college education or Associates in an engineering science and/or technology
Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing
Boeing and/or ASME AWS Weld Standards and Welding Symbols
Familiar with tool stress analysis requirements, tool proof loads, tool use Instructions and Boeing Tool design D-documents.
Ability to effectively communicate tooling concepts and provide direction to early career designers and engineers.
Ability to setup tooling requirements & tool types teaming with manufacturing engineers required for engineering design programs.
Troubleshoot tool designs used in production and determine design solutions.
Typical Education:
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced education (e.g. Associate) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience (e.g. Bachelor+7 years' related work experience, 11 years' related work experience, etc.).
