Job Summary: This vacancy is for a GS-1670-11, Equipment Specialist located in the Department of Homeland Security, United States Coast Guard, Planning & Estimating Branch, Coast Guard YARD, Office of Naval Engineering, Baltimore, MD.

Major Duties:

  • You will serve as an Equipment Specialist and be responsible for identifying materials used during ship repair and renovation, and system and equipment overhauls (gun weapon systems, large diesel engines, radars, etc). Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Reviewing workload schedules and project requirements to describe what material will be needed and develop material lists for work items. Developing and revising material lists based on customer requirements, shop feedback, Technical Publications, and drawings. Writing and maintaining specifications for procurement of materials or repairs to parts. Perform market research to Identify and evaluating vendors. Conduct technical edit of non-inventory procurement request (Milstrip & procurement). Conduct technical evaluation of contract bids. Inspect and evaluate supply discrepancy reports and frustrated material. Specialized Training Required Complete the following within 24 months of hiring: - Complete all training requirements necessary to obtain and use a government credit card. - Complete Industrial Project Management System training necessary to manage material lists. - Certified as a Department of Homeland Security COR Level II (Services).

Qualifications: Basic Requirements: This position has a positive Education Requirement in addition to at least one year of Specialized Experience or substitution of education for experience or combination (if applicable) in order to be found minimally qualified. You MUST meet the following requirements: EDUCATION: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related AND To qualify at the GS-11 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular and recurring basis. Experience reviewing and understanding ship repair specifications, technical manuals, and drawing material lists.
