What We Offer

The City and County of Denver offers competitive pay commensurate with education and experience.  New hires are typically brought into the organization between $27.00 - $30.00/hour, based on experience and education. Location

In this position, you can expect to report to the Denver Wastewater Building at 2000 W. 3rd Ave., Denver, CO 80221, and work in the field throughout the City and County of Denver. The schedule is Monday–Friday, 6:30 a.m.–3:00 p.m.

The Wastewater Management team has an opening for an Equipment Operator II.  Job duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Operates specialized vehicles such as catch basin cleaner (VAC truck), sewer jet cleaner and snow plow, ensuring the safe and efficient use of equipment and related tools. Samsara Dash Camera installed on all vehicles

  • Conduct pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections in accordance with federal guidelines, checking for mechanical issues, proper tire pressure, and overall safe operating conditions.

  • Perform basic preventative maintenance such as washing, fueling, and lubricating equipment, and complete minor repairs as needed to keep vehicles operational.

  • Single operator, responsible for completing assigned route

  • Responsible for safety and knowing safe work habits

  • Moving manholes covers and grates

  • Position includes bending, stooping, twisting, pushing, pulling, grasping, lifting, carrying, fine fingering, reaching, handling, manipulation, crouching, and walking.

  • May perform other duties as needed

What You’ll Bring

Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:

  • Previous experience with Wastewater and/or Public Works

  • Experience working in various weather conditions (snow, rain, heat, etc.) and environments (dust, fumes, etc.)

  • Knowledge of city of Denver streets/alleys and use of maps

  • Positive attitude, good personality that is self-motivated and eager to learn 

  • Team player with strong work ethic who takes pride in their work

  • Good communication skills

  • Show strong leadership abilities

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Education requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.

  • Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of general labor experience which must include two (2) years of experience operating light to medium sized equipment.

  • Education/Experience Equivalency: Additional appropriate experience may be substituted for the minimum education requirements.

  • License/Certifications: This job requires driving. Requires a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL "B") with appropriate endorsements at the time of application.

  • Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
