JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Penn State is searching for a full time Equipment Mechanic/Operator - Grade 5 to join the team. Duties include:

 

  • Operate passenger bus on and off campus. Keep accurate time, mileage, and ridership information for billing purposes
  • Service vehicles and farm equipment at specified intervals performing such duties as oil change, filter replacement, fluid and lubricant levels, tire pressure
  • Perform specialized, general repairs, and adjustments according to manufacturers’ specifications and service vehicles and farm equipment
  • Perform service, maintenance and major overhead work to vehicle and farm equipment
  • Paint, lubricate and make necessary adjustments, as required
  • Assist in the assembly of new farm equipment
  • Perform simple welding and cutting as required
  • Make minor repairs to shop equipment and building
  • Clean and maintain shop and tools
  • Operate trucks and tractors to haul crops, supplies and manure
  • Assist in unloading hay, grain, and forages, as required
  • Maintain vehicles and other equipment in neat and orderly condition
  • Apply insecticides and pesticides as required

Job Requirements: Requires the use of shop mathematics together with the use of complicated drawings, specifications, charts, tables, various types of adjustable measuring instruments and the training generally applicable in a particular or specialized occupation. Equivalent to 1 to 3 years applied farms training. Requires Pennsylvania Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B with Passenger Endorsement (P), without Commercial Restrictions E, L, and Z. CDL Class B Hazardous Materials (H) and Tank (N) endorsements and Pennsylvania Public Pesticide Applicator License Category 18 required within 90 days of hire.18 to 24 months of effective experience.

Work Schedule: 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Days Off: Saturday, Sunday

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

Pennsylvania Commercial Driver's License Class B with Endorsement P and without Restrictions E, L, and Z; Endorsements H and N required - Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, Pennsylvania Pesticide Applicator Certification with Category 18 - Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture

 

BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES

Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks. Employee must be able to wear a respirator and will be subject to medical clearance. This position is subject to federal Department of Transportation testing for alcohol and controlled substances (49 CFR PART 40), and physical examination requirements as per PA. CODE 231.85.
