The MOCVD Equipment Engineer is responsible for maintaining, optimizing, and improving Metal-Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition (MOCVD) reactors used for epitaxial growth of compound semiconductor materials. This role ensures high tool uptime, stable process performance, and continuous improvement of equipment capability to meet factory output and quality targets. The engineer will collaborate closely with Process Engineering, Manufacturing, Facilities, and vendor partners to support a high-volume production environment.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Ownership & Maintenance
- Serve as the primary owner of assigned MOCVD reactors
- Perform troubleshooting and root-cause analysis of equipment issues to minimize downtime.
- Develop and execute preventive and predictive maintenance plans.
- Manage consumables, spare parts, and maintenance budget for assigned tools.
Operational Support
- Ensure tool availability meets production schedule requirements.
- Respond to equipment-related excursions impacting wafer quality, throughput, or tool stability.
- Monitor tool health using SPC, sensor data, and system diagnostics.
Continuous Improvement
- Drive equipment performance improvements in uptime, MTBF, MTTR, and process stability.
- Implement hardware upgrades, retrofit projects, and sensor enhancements.
- Lead FMEA, DMAIC, and 8D activities for chronic issues and yield-impacting events.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure safe operation of high‑temperature, vacuum, and hazardous gas systems.
- Maintain compliance with environmental, gas handling, and cleanroom protocols.
- Collaborate with EHS teams on audits, hazard assessments, and incident reviews.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work with Process Engineering to support new process qualifications and transfers.
- Coordinate with Facilities on gas, chemical, and utility systems.
- Interface with tool vendors for troubleshooting, upgrades, and warranty support.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or related field.
- Experience with semiconductor equipment—preferably MOCVD systems.
- Strong troubleshooting skills with vacuum systems, gas delivery, RF/plasma systems, and automation controls.
- Ability to interpret schematics, P&IDs, and equipment documentation.
- Proficiency with SPC tools, data analysis, and structured problem-solving.
Preferred
- 3–7 years of experience in epitaxy or semiconductor capital equipment engineering.
- Direct experience with III-V or wide bandgap materials
- Knowledge of hazardous gas handling and safety systems.
- Experience in high-volume manufacturing (HVM) environments.
- Familiarity with JMP, Python, SECS/GEM, and equipment automation systems.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements
- Ability to work in a Class 100–1000 cleanroom environment.
- May require shift flexibility or on-call rotation.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and work around high‑temperature and chemical systems with proper PPE.
Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $100,000 – 140,000USD.
Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, skills, and qualifications.
