You will be a Shift Process Engineer responsible for the MOCVD (Epitaxy) process working a ‘continental’ shift pattern. You will perform manufacturing activities and provide process support to a team of manufacturing technicians working alongside you. This will involve:
- Supporting day to day production: tool set-up, wet preparation work, analysis and interpretation of material characterisation data, visual inspection and data logging.
- Providing guidance to the Epitaxy manufacturing technician team.
- Developing a generalist’s knowledge of all MOCVD reactors and processes.
- Working within a cleanroom environment with the prerequisite use of cleanroom clothing.
- Working with various computer software packages including specialist computer systems.
You will be expected to be autonomous (after a period of intensive training) with the ability to set-up processes and react appropriately to process outcomes without supervision.

JOB DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Carry out manufacturing activities according to process instructions without supervision, including the set-up, adjustment and operation of a variety of complex computer controlled equipment involved in the manufacture of photonic devices and other related products.
- Perform all of characterisation, data recording and production support functions relating to the epitaxy (MOCVD) process and analyse, interpret and respond to measured product as required.
- Co-ordinate work-area activity and interactions between the Manufacturing Management, Process Engineering, Equipment Engineering and Facilities teams.
- Provide first-line support to the manufacturing technician team in response to any unexpected outcomes or out-of-spec events.
- Ensure routine checklists for process equipment and basic maintenance activates are completed.
- Participate in key information exchanges session as Epitaxy team handovers, etc.
- Support Epitaxy team in reporting out performance, statistics and organising workloads, etc.
- Meet individual and team targets and objectives.
- Adhere to all site safety and environmental procedures.
KEY RELATIONSHIPS:
- Manufacturing Co-ordinator and Manufacturing Manger (to ensure the delivery of planned work).
- Interaction point between the Epitaxy Process Engineering team and the Manufacturing team.
- Epitaxy Equipment Engineering and Site Facilities teams (to help co-ordinate and tool and/or facility interventions).

EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:
Education/Qualification - Minimum:
- 3 years of related experience or a degree (or equivalent) in an engineering or scientific discipline.
Skills/Competencies Essential:
- Self-motivated and dependable with good communication skills
- Strong analytical skills and problem solving abilities.
- Ability to work as a part of a team to achieve targets under pressure.
- Ability to work without supervision whilst ensuring that all tasks are completed.
- Competent PC user (including the use of Microsoft Office).
- Meticulous, attention to detail is essential.
- Excellent attendance, timekeeping and punctuality.
- Self-motivated and dependable with good communication skills.
- A professional attitude to work and to colleagues.
- A flexible approach to work and customer demand.
Skills/Competencies Desirable:
- Knowledge of working within a high-technology manufacturing or production environment.
- Knowledge of working within a cleanroom or laboratory environment.
- Experience of computer controlled semiconductor processing equipment or vacuum systems.
- Knowledge of manufacturing execution systems (MES) such as PROMIS and MES concepts such as product re-work procedures, task scheduling, data collection and SPC.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Candidate must be eligible to live and work in the UK.
- Working within a cleanroom environment with the prerequisite use of cleanroom clothing.
- Working pattern will be ‘continental’ shift working (2x 7am-7pm, 2x 7pm-7am, 4 off).
- The ability to attend site is essential, the site is situated in a rural location and is not served by public transport.
