Job Summary:

Working closely with technical analysts and operational leaders/staff, this role is responsible for the design, development, and delivery of communication and education for users of Epic (the electronic health record (EHR) used at Denver Health). The Epic Instructional Designer creates and maintains documentation, curriculums, and e-learnings (blended learning, synchronous and asynchronous learning) and anticipates training challenges and opportunities for newly hired employees. The role also tests the Epic software training environments. They monitor training program effectiveness, review and evaluate work, and offer performance reports. They support the team goal to deliver elegant training solutions that are intuitive, empowering, efficient, sustainable, systems focused, and foundation based. This role receives coaching and works under limited supervision.

Essential Functions:
 

  • Documentation, materials creation and maintenance - Design, develop, track, evaluate, improve and maintain training curriculums, eLearning modules, curriculums and classes, materials such as job aids, bulletins, and huddle sheets, etc. based on workflow research and analysis, collaboration with stakeholders, and a thorough understanding of the Epic software. Analyze content, target audience, job tasks and learner environment to identify appropriate instructional strategies and modalities. Research system updates in vendor tools to identify education and change management opportunities and risks. Deliver content that meets the needs of a broad spectrum of adult learners. Work with SMEs, analysts and team members to ensure training deliverables are in line with both organization goals and the delivered solutions. Use Learning Management System (LMS) to deliver training and to track and report results. Regularly analyze work to identify opportunities to improve. Support the educational development of best practices. (30%)

  • Communication, facilitation and presentation - Deliver content — Lead classes and labs, make formal and informal presentations to leadership, team members and end users. Learn curriculum, systems, and roles necessary to schedule, coordinate and deliver train-the-trainer classes, classroom training and virtual training to users in multiple roles across supported applications. Use Learning Management System (LMS) to track eLearning, labs and classroom training and report training results to all impacted groups. Mentor trainers on their delivery and presentation skills of operational trainers (15%)

  • Project Management - Manage timelines, resources, and milestones of assigned projects. Communicate training plans to project manager and stakeholders. Prioritize work between and inside a project. Escalate issues and trends,and collaborate on solutions. Review and document the status of projects; escalate unresolved issues to leadership. Participate in Lessons Learned. (5%)

  • Liaise, rounding, help tickets and At The Elbow (ATE) support - Act as a liaison with users taking time to understand their needs and developing relationships through interpersonal skills and effective, consistent communication. Observe users in units/clinics to learnworkflows, user and department functions and needs and develop relationships to coordinate and deliver effective, consistent communication. Support end users by responding to training tickets. Round with end users to validate workflow and educational success. Provide feedback to analyst members on user requests and issues. Provide support to struggling individuals or groups, and to provide troubleshooting and follow up to issues or training tickets as needed. (15%)

  • Work tracking and documentation - Use problem/request tracking tools to keep documentation current on all assigned tasks. Complete work status and time allocation documentation. (5%)

  • Maintenance and improvements - Follow standards and expectations for annual review and update of all content: Job aids and tipsheets, curriculum, training environment build, content on LMS, etc. Using available data, analyze value of current offerings and identify opportunities to improve. (10%)

  • Learning and uptraining - take classes, pass tests, shadow users and become a workflow expert for the Epic applications you are assigned to learn. Complete assigned and required proficiency for Epic assigned applications and certify in the application. If the new hire has prior Epic this time is spent learning more about Denver Health and our systems. (20%)


Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.


Work Experience:
 

  • Experience in healthcare is preferred.

  • 1-3 years experience working in adult education required. 6+ years of experience in secondary education accepted in lieu of experience in adult education.

  • 5+ years experience in health care may be accepted in lieu of formal adult education experience assuming at least some of that time involved training peers and or new employees.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Team-oriented and self-motivated with the ability to balance multiple projects.

  • Ability to develop strong relationships and build buy-in and collaborate successfully with a wide variety of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), stakeholders and to communicate with both technical and non-technical employees across the organization

  • Adult learning theory application

  • Good communication and organizational skills are a requirement. Excellent oral and written presentation and communications skills.

  • Strong negotiation skills and the ability to influence others without direct lines of authority.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite required

  • Instructional writing for digital media

  • The ability to prioritize and make good decisions with minimal supervision.

  • Knowledge of specific healthcare industry Epic (or other EHR) applications preferred

  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite products preferred.

$59,000.00 - $88,500.00 / yr
