Job Summary: This position is located within Environmental Management Services (EMS) of the Raymond G Murphy Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center located in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The primary purpose of this position is to exercise technical and administrative supervision over subordinate workers in supporting and performing task (e.g., environment of care, textile distribution and training) associated with the EMS goals and objectives.

Major Duties:

  • Duties include but are not limited to: Incumbent is delegated responsibility for assigning staff for routine and non-routine duties on a daily and a project-by-project basis. Supervises 10-20 Housekeeping Aids and 1-2 WL Leaders. Non-routine duties require that the incumbent be able to reorganize work schedules efficiently in order that work is accomplished in a timely manner. Incumbent is required to coordinate work with supervisors of other services within the incumbent's area of jurisdiction so as not to interrupt patient care or other activities. Incumbent is also responsible for the cleaning of all patient areas, corridor spaces throughout Medical Center, Operating Rooms, and all other areas as assigned. Incumbent is responsible for assuring the efficient and economical accomplishment of work assignments of subordinates within established policies and schedules set by higher levels of supervision. The incumbent plans daily and weekly assignments, scheduling periodic work for areas of responsibility, taking into consideration the availability of personnel and equipment to meet established priorities. The incumbent trains staff and ensure that they are using the patient centered care principles in terms of their customer service to patients, patients' family members and personnel. Incumbent provides on-the job training for subordinates as individual needs dictate. Due to the constant change in the type of patients, proper on-the-job training is necessary to ensure the housekeeping duties are effectively accomplished. Incumbent must give special direction to new employees in order to prepare them for individual assignments, procedures and safety policies. Incumbent must schedule regular meetings with staff to make them aware of any new procedures or directives. Incumbent must keep their supervisor informed as to the condition of staff, unusual occurrences or matters that should be brought to the attention of their supervisor. Must keep subordinates abreast of proper methods, procedures and uses of equipment and supplies; control the use of supplies and equipment to affect cost control within the unit. Incumbent may be assigned to conduct in-use testing of equipment and/or supplies, providing feedback in regards to their observations. Incumbent ensures all safety regulations and procedures are observed; may on occasion be required to conduct training classes on specific safety issues. Incumbent must routinely inspect assigned areas to assure the timely accomplishment of employee assignments, sanitation levels are maintained, equipment properly cared for and that associated housekeeping objectives are accomplished in an expedient and timely manner. Incumbent is responsible for the quality inspection of assigned areas, recording discrepancies in cleanliness, needed maintenance repairs, broken or inadequately stored furnishings and equipment. Provides documented HR Actions, inspection reports and takes action on unaccomplished work. Incumbent is responsible for the review of procedures, methods and sequence of tasks performed by employees under their supervision. Work Schedule: 3:30p.m. - 12:00a.m. /Days off to be determined Position Description Title/PD#: Environmental Services Technician Supervisor/PD99911S Physical Requirements: Dexterity in teaching the operation of power equipment. Ability to distinguish basic colors. Push/pull carts. Required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, and climb on scaffolds, ladders, and reach above the shoulder. Lifting and carrying over 45 pounds and arduous physical effort is required in the performance of the manual tasks described, such as moving furniture, sweeping, mopping, cleaning restroom facilities, high/low dusting, washing walls above five feet and operating powered equipment over extended periods.
