MKS

Environmental Regulations Specialist (m/f/d) - focus on logistics/packaging

Germany Berlin Full time

A Day in Your Life at MKS

Shape the Future of Sustainable Packaging and Products in Europe

In this role, you will take on a key position at the intersection of sustainability, regulation, and operational implementation. You will assess, plan, and implement environmental and product requirements – particularly within the framework of the PPWR (Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation, the planned EU packaging regulation that will replace the current Packaging Directive) and WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive). You will work closely with internal departments and external partners, drive compliance processes, and develop sustainable solutions that strengthen our company in the long term. You contribute your own ideas, communicate clearly and confidently, and handle sensitive information responsibly.

During the onboarding phase, you will travel approximately 50% of the time to our European production sites – this will decrease significantly as your experience grows.

Your Responsibilities

  • Analysis of products, processes, and packaging systems with regard to PPWR requirements
  • Conducting GAP analyses for PPWR and deriving concrete compliance measures
  • Creating and prioritizing implementation plans and supporting their execution
  • Assessing the current WEEE compliance status and conducting structured GAP analyses
  • Defining and planning the necessary steps to achieve WEEE conformity
  • Coordinating, supporting, and monitoring implementation progress
  • Supporting the safe packaging of chemicals and sensitive equipment
  • Applying dangerous goods expertise (e.g., ADR, IATA, IMDG) for safe packaging and transport

Your Skills and Competencies

  • A completed degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Technology, or Sustainability Management, ideally with a focus on logistics due to the strong connection to chemical packaging; alternatively, a completed vocational training in logistics (e.g., warehouse logistics specialist, industrial clerk with logistics focus, etc.)
  • Solid understanding of relevant EU regulations, especially PPWR and WEEE
  • Experience analysing complex regulatory requirements and translating them into operational processes
  • Expertise in the safe packaging of chemicals and/or sensitive technical equipment
  • Knowledge in (dangerous goods) logistics
  • Strong, audience‑appropriate, and motivating communication skills
  • Willingness to travel regularly within Europe
  • Very good English skills; German or other European languages are a plus
