
Environmental Health & Safety Consultant - Facility Safety
Triumvirate Environmental, one of the largest environmental services firms in North America, is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Consultant to join our Somerville team. As an EH&S Consultant, you will have a strong understanding of EH&S concepts, issues, challenges, and will be able to identify unmet issues and opportunities with resolutions, for current and new clients while ensuring the highest level of satisfaction.
This service-oriented individual will be responsible for short- and long-term consulting and staff augmentation engagements. This position will lead/assist with the development and continual improvement of the environmental, health and safety program for a client site in the greater Boston area.

This position reports to a regional Environmental Health & Safety Manager. This role is onsite at assigned client sites. Relocation assistance may be provided.
Essential responsibilities:
- Execute and facilitate risk assessments for high-risk work in areas including, but not limited to, electrical safety, control of hazardous energies, confined space entry, hot work, working at heights, lifting and hoisting, and permit to work programs.
- Conduct risk assessments and walkthroughs of work areas with hazardous or potentially hazardous processes or equipment as needed and/or requested. Collaborating with personnel and contractor workers to implement control measures to lessen and/or mitigate risks associated with tasks and equipment.
- Support Contractor Safety and Safe Systems of Work programs through collection and verification of operator training records, equipment inspection reports, and supplemental documentation required for non-routine, project-based work. This may include qualification review of contractors, assisting with pre-job planning, conducting contractor safety orientation and training, supervision of work, and post-job evaluations.
- Ensure robust systems are in place to demonstrate and verify compliance with all pertinent Environmental, Health and Safety Management Systems, policies and procedures, and associated environmental, health and safety regulations, permits, statutes, local ordinances and/or other externally driven requirements.
- Ensures that Environmental, Health and Safety services are provided to the client in an effective and efficient manner.
- Conduct workplace safety inspections according to a defined procedure, evaluating the safe work practices for high-risk tasks, handling and storage of hazardous materials, use of personal protective equipment, and workplace safety practices according to applicable regulations. These inspections of the workplace will involve talking with workers and observing their work.
- Help investigate accidents and injuries, identifying causes and recommending remedial action.
- Communicate with Client personnel regarding workplace safety issues, recommending corrective actions.
- Measure occupational and environmental hazards, using calibrated scientific equipment and/or collecting samples of dust, vapors, or gases according to a defined operating procedure.
- Identify potential accidents and health hazards, such as toxic vapors, mold, mildew, and explosive gas-air mixtures and help implement appropriate control measures, such as adjustments to ventilation systems.
- Conduct routine Environmental, Health and Safety trainings such as new employee orientation, hazard communication, regulated waste management, without supervision.
- Write operating procedures and reports, including accident reports, and enter information on required Occupational Safety and Health Administration recordkeeping forms.
- Development and implementation of operating procedures for areas of occupational health and safety systems.
Requirements:
- 1-3 years' experience in EH&S, specifically within construction and/or facility safety programs.
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health, Safety, or a related scientific field, such as chemistry or engineering.
- Excellent communication & customer service skills.
- Detail oriented.
- Problem solver with the ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
- Possess valid driver's license and personal vehicle.
Preferred requirements:
- Experience as a professional advisor or consultant to third party clients.
- Completed two or more industry-recognized trainings (OSHA 10 or 30, NFPA 70E, HAZWOPER, DOT/IATA HAZMAT Transportation).
- Active member in at least one national professional safety organization including local chapters.
- Working towards meeting the requirements of and obtaining one professional designation/certification (CSP, CHMM, CIH, etc.).
