Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems (NGAS) has an opening for an Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Engineer Level 2. The position requires on-site support located in Palmdale, CA. This role interprets, recommends, and complies with environmental, health and safety regulations and/or company policies. Assists in planning for changes in physical facilities to meet new environmental requirements. Finds, evaluates, and prepares contracts for properly licensed hazardous and radioactive waste disposal firms and monitors waste handling. Organizes and equips spill-control teams. Writes and updates environmental and spill-control manuals and procedures. Prepares environmental impact statements and applies for all new permits and renewals. Provides input to federal and state regulators through trade associations and industry groups for the writing and revision of regulations.
Key roles and responsibilities include:
Review and interpret existing and proposed EHS regulations to determine applicability and impact on operations. Assists with implementation of EHS programs to ensure compliance.
Partner with site leadership to continuously improve the culture, awareness and accountability in support of EHS programs.
Assist with the development, implementation and maintenance of EHS programs to ensure compliance, injury prevention and risk mitigation.
Complete audits, industrial hygiene (IH) sampling, ergonomic assessments, and safety inspections.
Creates and updates Job Hazards Analyses.
Participates in tooling design and project reviews, provides regulatory requirements and recommendations for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Assist during accident/incident investigations to help determine root cause and corrective actions.
Prepare and coordinate EHS training and conduct instructor-led EHS training.
Participates in regulatory agency and external customer inspections and follows up on any resulting findings.
Interface with employee-based safety committees, senior management and other functional support groups to address safety concerns.
Implement EHS management systems, sector-level programs and associated documentation to proactively eliminate or reduce workplace hazards.
Support site environmental compliance and sustainability programs as needed.
Basic Qualifications Level 2:
Bachelor’s Degree in science and 2 years of occupational health and safety or related experience or Master’s Degree and 0 years of related experience.
Ability to communicate and collaborate skills.
Ability to solve complex problems by: actively seeking information and new ideas from a variety of sources; consistently looking for novel ways to solve problems; mastering unfamiliar information, tasks and situations quickly and effectively.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret clearance (U.S. Citizenship required).
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in environmental health or occupational safety.
Previous DoD, Military or Aerospace facilities experience.
Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
